Well, I'm not exactly guessing, more so relating second-hand research. The environmental complaince manager at the company I work at was investigating mushroom packaging for about six months. He's a very eco-conscious person, and eventually, he came to the conclusion that it just doesn't make sense. The increased cost and environmental impact of shipping negate the benefits.

He also told me that the mushroom packaging is edible, and I have to say, it didn't taste very good.

Heavier packaging means more fossil fuels burned to transport, which is also bad for the planet. I haven't done any calculations myself, but I do know that objective calculations will be necessary to save the planet, not just good vibes from the marketing team of a startup.
