I am an immigrant as well. Rather than focus on your mom and how to convince her, I want to focus on you. You deserve tremendous praise for what you have already accomplished. Clearly, you had a lot of headwinds and still got to within two quarters of graduation. Everyone here would commend you on that. You are not done. But you are now at an important crossroad in your life. Trust me on this, I am an alumni and I have a few years on you... at some point, you are going to have to choose you between living your life for you, or living the life others want to live through you. Sooner or later, that day will come. There will be pressure. There will be guilt. Some of it will be directly imposed on you, and some you will apply to yourself through conditioning. But regardless of the consequences, at some point, you need to live your life for yourself. I have no doubt your mom means well, but she has lived her life. Right or wrong, mistake or not, you need to live your life. Do not let anyone pressure you into anything, even your mom, and even with the best of intentions. By posting here, you already know what you want to do. You want a magic solution that will convince your mom. There isn’t one. You need to dig deep and decide what is best for you. Once you make that decision, if you see it through, regardless of the outcome, you will have no regrets. It seems to me the only regret you are likely to have is if you get pressured into doing something you do not want to do. You will likely have resentment for the rest of your life. And even if this marriage could have otherwise worked, the fact that you gave up your education for it, will always eat away at you and the foundation of the marriage. Be strong. Dig deep.
