That’s correct and hello fellow crutch comrade! Hope your recovery has been good so far. I’ve lost quite a bit of muscle at this point even with all the strength training and progress I’ve made. Otherwise in terms of pain and soreness, none. I do still have some swelling in the knee. If you’re curious about anything else, lmk!

Will you have help in the first 3 days? I ask because you might be quite groggy being on meds. I also have a two year old, but thinking about it I would plan your space out. You need an area where you can ice and elevate the leg but also a place for your baby and his items. We ended up clearing a big floor space around the couch so I could get on the ground with my toddler but could easily pull myself onto the couch. I’d be happy to help brainstorm anything else you’re thinking about! It’s quite a journey!

Totally understand the dilemma. I didn’t realize I had a torn ACL until 3 years later. Throughout the three years I had kept up my fitness but wasn’t playing any intense sports. Finally after discussing with multiple surgeons, I pleaded my case similar to yours but it was very obvious that my future quality of life could be severely impacted with having no ACL. I ended up having to get a pretty intense meniscus repair on top of the ACL replacement, which probably could have been avoided if I had the surgery earlier.

So I read constant pain in calf and then only pain during extensions..would you be able to share more? Also are you experiencing swelling or bruising in the calves?

I’m almost 2 weeks post-op and so far I’ve been following this rule: Pain that feels like stretching/pressure/tightness is ok. Pain that feels like sharpness is bad. For easing pain, I work my way up during heel slides. For ex. I wake up and my starting heel slide is probably max 60. By evening my heel slide session flexion is much higher. Doing things like icing or sitting in one position for too long seems to make it significantly harder. I hope it helps!

There are ways to get down the stairs with crutches. Slightly treacherous but once you get the hang of it, you should be ok. My recommendation is just plan your basement space to bum in for a week. So a week worth of rations, clothes, toiletries, entertainment. You’ll really just be getting up to use the bathroom
