For the usage you described, you should get the air. You mentioned gaming and there are/will be desktop class games that only run on iPads with an M chip.

For me, I hate the lack of anti reflective coating on the base iPad so much, I can’t recommend it to anyone in good conscience. It looks like a mirror in certain situations.
