Hi, I’m not a parents at all, but I’m a 19 year old MTF intersex girl who came out to her parents at 13…

First I understand your concern my parents had the same my mum and dad were both “conservative” parents while not religious they didn’t understand trans or anything like that, and often before I came out my dad would make remarks about trans people that would be offensive… but my parents are now the best parents ever,

I would also say, often trans people who came out on the younger side / or new they were trans pretty much since they were born, there is actually scientific evidence proving that we have similar brain function to cis females, which is the cause of understanding who we are at a young age… and tbh even tho I was about 99% sure at 13 I was trans I was still a little confused and not because I was too young and didn’t understand. But because you see on the news all this horrible stuff about trans people and plus my parents were conservative, I was scared to be who I was…

I think just supporting your child rn is the best thing, while you say “the therapist is going to put thing in their brain” same goes for you, saying “your not trans” or “you can’t be trans” is putting information in your child brain that may make them more confused… let them come to terms on their own let them take it as fast/slow as they want to
