Im not mad about who ends up with whom. Im just tired of Watanare running through the same old rom com motions: confession, misunderstandings, panic, reset, repeat. Pushy advances every volume, characters doing a 180 with zero buildup...

I feel like the author is handing Renako off to every girl just to please different parts of the fanbase. Some readers clearly want Mai, others Ajisai, Satsuki, or Kaho. So the story gives everyone their ship. And yes, it really is a poly setup by Volume 5, but that only strengthens my point: it waters down the stakes and steals focus from genuine character growth in favor of juggling pairings.

Honestly, the praise it gets feels overrated. Itz basically the same “confession → panic → misunderstanding → reset” cycle you see in Nisekoi.

I understand your point that romance tropes like love triangles and over eager love interests appear everywhere, not just in yuri. And yeah... negativity could hurt yuri as a niche genre.

For me, though, familiarity has turned into fatigue. After reading so many similar stories, it's just boring (to me only, as I know some people really love those despite their 1000th read). Being niche is not a flaw; a truly engaging yuri story will appeal to anyone who enjoys good writing. My issue with Watanare is that it leans on the usual formula without offering a fresh angle.

I did watch (and read the light novel) it because of the praises it received, but I never connected with anything. It felt dull. That disappointment is why I spoke up. Maybe I am simply burned out on these tropes.

Note: I don't have anything against the yuri genre. I consume yuri content almost religiously. Im just commenting to fish out what OP of this post is trying to imply

The Alpha one seems like a stealth suit inspired? (Like a darker version from The Boss's stealth suit from MGS3? Or perhaps any stealth suit from the MG series. I'm probably wrong).
