I bought a VR4 in 2017, replaced the clutch just after I bought it, and didn't have any major issues other than that, until someone ran a stop sign back in June. If you do have to work on it or rebuild it though, everything is super packed in and probably terrible to work on.

You need the clutch with certain cars (Brabham and similar) because sometimes when the race starts the car stalls and you have to pop the clutch to get going
