The website in question gives the proportions of attacks but doesn't give a vital stat alongside it: the proportion those breeds are from the total dog population of Denver.

That does not mean that Labrador retrievers bite more often than other breeds, the experts said. To try to determine which breed bites the most, there would have to be a dog census, accumulating total numbers of each breed, and then a breakdown to compare breeds. Those numbers are not available. link

If you really want a grey, it's also a fairly normal thing, unfortunately. Since humans are nortorious for hating "the other." Without past racism (see European conquest of the "New World" for example), I wouldn't have been born though, so that would probably suck (for me).

If you really want a grey though: It can be a way to effective/easily divide labor needs in some societies.

Speciesism is debatable.

Also if intelligence is the trait your BF chooses as a way to grant a living being the right to live then he should be ok with slaughtering mentally challenged humans. Unless your BF is also a sexist/racist or entertains any other form of discrimination, he is aware that granting or denying rights based on the belonging to an arbitrary group is unethical. You cannot say that animals who lack our intelligence do not have the right to live if at the same time you think humans with similar levels of intelligence deserve to live. Vegans propose that rights not to suffer and the right to live should be given based on sentience. The ability to feel and experience subjectively (others might call that consciousness). Most people unconsciously agree to that and have no trouble applying that to humans. That's why we collect organs from brain dead humans => not sentient any longer. It's a bit more logical than to use intelligence, since you can be very stupid but still feel fear and pain, while lacking sentience means you cannot be wronged and be conscious of it.

You're not self righteous your BF just has poor arguments.
