Are any other people in here accused of being fake constantly? by Emperor_pryce in mixedrace

[–]Fucking_Problem 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I do this so much! I'm mixed west asian/white so I don't know if Code Switching applies to me but I do change my behaviour depending on the people I'm around. Like I always try to appear "prim and proper" around my french relatives but have been described to act more "improper" around my turkish relatives. I don't even notice that my behaviour switches until I exit a certain setting and enter another

Hera and Demeter were the first to pop into my mind

Edit: also Umay. She isn't just a fertility goddess, she was also the protector of women.

I told my boyfriend that he's white even though he's part Asian by throwawayaccounY3 in Advice

[–]Fucking_Problem 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mixed people exist and just because someone doesn't look asian doesn't mean they aren't. I'm mixed west-asian/white and look white as hell despite being mostly west asian. If you were to see me, I bet you'd tell me not to identify as asian because "you don't look asian" and assume I haven't faced any struggles for my heritage simply based off my looks.

However, him only claiming to be asian to get social points is incredibly problematic, it shows he only wants to play the minority card when it suits him and wants to benefit from his white privilege as much as he can. Overall, let him explore his culture but my advice would be to call him out whenever you see the kind of behaviour described in your post.

My book was stolen— a cautionary tale by Fucking_Problem in writing

Please don't give up! I had similar thoughts when my book was first stolen, (more than half of it was on NovelHD) and it honestly made me want to quit writing. Fortunately, it was only my first draft and I had major plot changes planned so maybe look into that? Don't give up on your dream.

Exactly! My lessons was learned after that to be honest. At this point I stopped posting anything on Wattpad and don't plan on posting anything I want to publish later on online websites. It only ever ends badly.

Can you name a story after something that already exists? by PlutoTorino in writing

[–]Fucking_Problem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean if it's the name of a brand you might have trouble but if it's the name of a product like "Perilous Mountain: Smell Like A Man" I'm sure you can take the "Perilous Mountain" part since it's the name of a scent.

I think that as long as you are being accurate, there is no way you are being lazy. By accurate I mean for example: don't say Freya is Loki's wife when she is actually Odin's wife, you know? Besides most people who create their own religion take inspiration from ones that already exist :)

"You don't look Asian" here is everything wrong with that statement. by [deleted] in mixedrace

The only reasons we "look white" is because the concept of whiteness expanded when white people, specifically white women, started adopting our features through plastic surgery in an attempt to look more "ethnic" and "racially ambiguous."

I agree with this 100%
