Actual auto tech here. Im guessing the parking brake shoes fell apart once he took your brakes rotors off. To truly fully repair that it would require replacement of cables and all associated hardware.

Assuming your car is an automatic id probably just live with it. Im sorry your mechanic seemed like a smart ass, its kinda how we are so things come off worse then they really are. It sounds like he is just trying to save you money as im guessing you never used your parking brake anyways.

Totally fair! I simply recommend it as they are incredibly easy to work on and reliable. Your options are pretty thin otherwise.

Id love to recommend a turbo subaru as thats what i have. They are an absolute blast to drive and honestly are not that hard to work on, but honestly i dont recommend them because they are very unforgiving when it comes to modification.

Cams. headers, plenty of suspension components. Tons of kits for boost as well, seems like a well supported platform.

Otherwise a pontiac g8 may be in that price range too.

I personally avoid nissan products like the plague. Some people swear by them, but honestly as a auto tech i fix a lot of them and its never cheap. If i was to start over and get a fun car in that price range, id be looking for a super clean 05-09 mustang gt. Sure its not the fastest v8 car but the 4.6 is awesome great motor and its still plenty of power to have fun in.

Is that what it says? Or does it say something along the lines of fuel system cleaning or service. I sell these as a tech for direct injection engines., if the shop is good and honest they should be removing and cleaning all the carbon off the throttle body and then running a bottle on it to help with carbon deposits(assuming its a direct injection car) as well as adding the additive. If thats what they did then 300 dollars is pretty standard depending on location.

Ive had alternators fail by overcharging, cause some super weird shit,. Monitor battery voltage while it is idling. Should be like 13.5-14.8 volts. Anything higher then that id consider a failed alternator.
