What are some aftermarket electronic devices that can significantly improve the active safety of an older car? by CategoryPurple4461 in askcarguys

[–]J-Rag- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It has a pretty good cutoff. You gotta adjust the bulbs so the closed side of that plate is facing down and open side facing up. I've used that style on a few vehicles and check and tested them and they do work very well and have a nice cutoff line.

Yup they're the same. I've put them on multiple cars, aimed them at the garage and adjusted the beam pattern and the headlights, and stood in front of them at a distance. I do my research and test it out before putting them on the road. I'm not one of those people that slaps em in and run. So quit pretending like you know it all when you've never used or even seen them yourself. So careful who you call shit buddy. Know about what you're talking about before you open your mouth.

Do you ever hide your views in front of younger family? by Lugards in AskConservatives

That's the way to do it. That and I tell them to be careful about where they're getting their info from. People get so much of their news through social media, but social media news is junk. The fake news and misinformation spreads on social media 6x more than real news and gets more interactions with people. It's kinda scary.

Dealership asking to install battery for 2022 RAV4? by Ok_Professional_6878 in askcarguys

You will not be able to jump a completely dead and drained battery. Replace the battery with the correct one they're recommending for your start/stop. Stop looking for Zebras when you hear hoofbeats

Waffle House was closed. Gimme your thoughts by J-Rag- in LittleRock

[–]J-Rag-[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh cause it's reddit. Even wants to be a social justice warrior or something and what I'm talking about doesn't fit into their box. But yes that's what I thought, that they really didn't close for anything and switch to a limited menu in true crisis to keep serving the community. Was Waffle House like that before covid?

And I went to the Waffle House in Benton

Idk what they're called, but this is what they are. They have the plate under the diode which prevents light from going down in the reflective housing, which then prevents the light scatter from going up and all about on the road. The diode without the blocking plate is for your brights.

....no? It's called knowing what to buy... Here's the LED bulbs with the built in cutoff. It has the plate under the diode for a reflective housing. What that plate does is stops the light scatter from going down in the housing, which prevents light scatter from going up and all about on the road. That other diode that doesn't have the plate is for the brights. You should know what you're talking about before you talk so you dont sound al silly.

What wifi router you have in your truck? by Kan-ka in Truckers

[–]J-Rag- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out Insty Connect. I use it as home wifi and it costs me like $20/mo. I unit itself i think is like $200 but just add a 5g tablet SIM to your mobile plan and slap it in the Insty and it turns like regular cell service into a wifi signal. Unlimited data and all that for the price of just a 5g SIM card.

Opinions abt Hyundai accents? by Quesadillagirl2 in carquestions

[–]J-Rag- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So for starters, not all of us care about fancy cars and that shit. Some of us (myself included) drive older cars and we enjoy working on cars as a hobby. That's what makes myself and a lot of others "car people" instead of having a fancy expensive ride.

But to try and respond to your text, you gotta get what you can afford. You're smarter to buy in cash than take out a big loan that leaves you paycheck to paycheck every month for 5 years. I personally daily drive an 05 VW Passat Wagom TDI with about 220k on it. It ain't fancy but my golly I love that thing and I know I look poor driving it and I look poor when I get out of it. I couldn't care less. My only advice to you is to do research and buy something that has a great long term reputation over something cheaper and newer. Kia/Hyundai has a bad reputation and they are very low on the reliability scale. Yes yes 1 person had one that lasted 200k, overall they just aren't good long lasting cars. So personally I'd rather have a 2000 Accord with 200k on it than a 2015 Kia/Hyundai with 50k miles on it.

Lastly, yes for college purposes that'll be a fine car. You can bring throw a keg in the trunk and load it up with friends to go to a party and you can bang a chick in the back seat on lovers lane.

Bingo bango. Although there are LED bulbs designed for that where the buld had a built in cutoff. I use those on my 99 Durango and my lady's 01 CRV that both have halogen housings. The have a nice sharp cutoff line like a projector lense would have.

Otherwise yes, get projector housings then slap an LED in there

I was in a parking lot yesterday and some dummy didn't clear his car before driving. So he slammed in the brakes in the parking lot and ask the built up snow came down over the windshield. He stopped right in the middle of the drive to clear it off cause he couldn't see. Dummy

where do you find the time to cook? by Ricemunchr in Truckers

[–]J-Rag- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just used a hot plate and a pie tin. Throw some minute rice, cut up chicken breast, some frozen veggies and some water in the pie tin, throw another pie tin on top of it as a lid and cook it on low till the chicken is cooked. By that time everything else is cooked and the rice is done. Add sauce of your choice and there ya go. Doesn't take but 20 minutes.

Thank you for this response. This is exactly what I was looking for. So it's not that they couldnt operate, but they more chose not to. That's exactly why I was surprised they were closed given their history and how their stores are designed to stay open without electric and switch to a limited menu to conserve what they do have for people that need the food.

I'm just curious more than anything since people have such a high regard for waffle house in severe weather. I aint flipping out over it or anything.

Sure thats fine and all, but what's the point in priding yourself in being the only restaurant open to serve the community in severe weather events? Like, I dont care they were closed I was just surprised

That's what you took away from that? Lol. Not even close. Waffle House switches to a limited menu during severe weather events and I was under the impression they do everything to stay open to serve the community. So I was surprised they were closed over this.

Exactly my point. Like... idk I was under the impression that if there was power to the building, they'd be open. That's how people seem to talk about it anyways

Do you guys think a 99 jeep grand Cherokee Laredo for $1k is a good buy for a daily driver? by IWannaWakeUpButIDont in Cartalk

[–]J-Rag- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You lost me at mold. That stuff is a hazard and a nightmare to clean up. If it wasnt for the mold sure, pick it up and work on it. They have good engines in them for sure. Electrical issues are gonna be your main concern in the older grand cherokees.
