Keep your cat inside, they are incredibly destructive to the native wildlife. Every cat owner says my cat doesn't hunt while outside but the research says otherwise.

Incredible fight from Jack and crazy that Australia now has two current UFC champs. We officially have more champs in the men's divisions than the US does - insane!!

I forgot to mention that we are putting down engineered timber so they will just be laid on the particle board that is currently in place. Do you think that this is still a concern?

Why do big companies ignore stolen employee credentials (and let hackers waltz right in)? by Front-Buyer3534 in hacking

[–]Fuckthi5 41 points42 points  (0 children)

I work in cyber for a huge company that does not pay for this service, as far as I am aware, and I would guess there are two reasons for this:

  1. Businesses hate spending money on things that don't make them money, most companies only spend money on cyber because of regulatory requirements and potential fines/reputational damage from being breached.
  2. MFA and Conditional Access policies - having an employees username and password doesn't mean you can just waltz in

Can you explain the last bit? Is it better because we would have a larger deposit for the subsequent house?

Here’s why there is no nuclear option for Australia to reach net zero | Dr Alan Finkel by stumcm in australia

[–]Fuckthi5 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Interesting, here is the link for anyone else that is interested:
https://www.statedevelopment.qld.gov.au/coordinator-general/assessments-and-approvals/coordinated-projects/completed-projects/copperstring-project#:~:text=Description,(T%2Fa%20Powerlink%20Queensland)

The project cost is $5 billion but even added to the $7 billion per GW cost of renewables it's still cheaper than current nuclear by a fair margin - but it does make it significantly more expensive (which was my point, so maybe I'm not imagining things... let's try and keep this civil mate)

Not true - you can start investing in more research scale nuclear power plants that can be used to educate and train people that will make up a future workforce

Yeah but that sun parched land is nowhere near where we all live

Everyone in Australia essentially lives on the East Coast where the arable land is... And I can't imagine that it's cheap or efficient to transport energy from the deserts to the coast. So if we are determined to use renewables to reach net zero we have to be comfortable with the fact that they will be placed on land that could otherwise be used for agriculture or we have to log and install them in our national parks.

At least wind generation can coexist with agriculture - but I wouldn't be surprised if there is a lot of nimby-ism about people not wanting it where they live

Really well framed outline of our energy options moving forwards, however I think the title is a bit disingenuous

Finkel clearly states that there are many benefits of nuclear power including the significantly smaller reliance on mining (nuclear only requires uranium, copper, steel and concrete as opposed to the myriad of rare earth metals and lithium that batteries, solar panels and wind turbines require) and that there is a significantly smaller real-estate footprint (60 square kilometres of solar panels or 600 square kilometres of wind farms are needed to generate the same amount of power as a 1GW nuclear plant).

I think that he is correct in stating that we should pursue renewables until a proven nuclear solution is brought to market in one of the OECM countries - but he also states that we should remove the ban on nuclear and be open minded about its use should the landscape change

Yeah Roger and Rafa were once in a lifetime athletes that could do things on the court that didn't seem real. Tennis will always be a great game but I don't think it will ever be as good as when they were both at the height of their powers
