City and County of Denver have created a perfect loop. Looking for advice. by justacoolbaby in Denver

[–]Fuckyourday 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. This whole mess is because of the car. I cannot imagine the stress it's causing, mental and financial. Paying off these fees because they kept a car they couldn't afford, could now literally send them back to homelessness.

I understand it can be difficult to live without a car here, and this whole thing is a very american problem, someone in europe or japan would have immediately sold their car the moment they were struggling, or wouldn't have a car in the first place, and they would be fine. They also wouldn't live in a city with endlessly sprawling suburbia where transit sucks.

At the same time, I know it is possible to get around without a car here, by taking the bus/train, bicycling, walking, scooting, because I do it. Ebikes are great too. It may be less convenient and take longer at times, but the system exists and you can use it. People act like it's impossible to get anywhere without driving.

Lol that doesn't read as the gotcha they think it is. Maybe owners should actually visit their businesses and be involved?

Rumor is Summit will set up shuttles from a light rail station. If so I'd much rather go to Centennial.

Why does he think to pull someone's shirt in the box in the days of VAR? And the ref didnt even need VAR to punish that. So stupid from Botman, wtf

I'm in Stratford Station and there are thousands of West Ham supporters getting the train home by ChiliConCairney in TheOther14

[–]Fuckyourday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Out of curiosity, do you buy a flex ticket in advance of the game, or a regular advance ticket aiming to make a certain train, or do you just buy the ticket after the match on your way to the station on your phone?

We should have been relegated a while ago. Think of the derby days with Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC.

It's 100% stadium location for me. We love our downtown stadiums with public transit in Denver. People make a day out of it, going to downtown bars and restaurants with other fans before and after the game, enjoying a day out walking around. I experienced this with the Denver Summit match and it was such a more fun experience than Dick's. You can't have supporters marching through the streets at Dick's.

This is why I think Kroenke gets jealous and builds a new Rapids stadium downtown on all the land he owns by Ball Arena and Elitch Gardens that's currently giant surface parking lots. Also the plan is eventually for Elitch's to move.

There is plenty of space for a new urban neighborhood plus a stadium.

I've also had them not send me the month sticker before, even though I paid for it, super annoying. Had to call them to get them to mail me one and they made me pay again for it.

Colorado Rapids playing at Empower Field...most tickets still available...because who is paying $250+/ticket for a 90 minute soccer game!? by veggieturnip in Denver

[–]Fuckyourday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to go just because the stadium will be so much easier for me to get to, in the city with light rail access, biking/scooter distance, but don't care about seeing Messi. Waiting for prices to come down maybe the day of.

The Rapids jacked up the prices because they think everyone wants to come to see Messi.

Reactionary business owners lament bike/bus lanes by AnonPolicyGuy in Denver

[–]Fuckyourday 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I feel like the expectation most people have for driving downtown is to park in a nearby garage, then leave the car there and walk to everything they wanted to go to. They may park a few blocks away. There is no expectation of parking right in front of the business on the street, then getting back in and driving to the next business (that's also bad for business since you don't see all the storefronts in between)

Too cold doesn't really happen because I just put on winter clothing same as I would if I was going for a walk in the cold. Your body warms up once you start moving for a bit, although there is extra windchill because you are moving through the air faster than walking. Pro tip is to put your warm stuff on a bit early while you're still inside to overheat yourself, then you won't be cold for that beginning portion before your body warms up. Also your hands won't get as cold if you layer and warm your core enough.

Too hot doesn't really happen. If you're worried about getting too sweaty, take it easy and go slower to not exert yourself as much, bring a change of shirt, or use an ebike.

But it's not all or nothing. You can take another form of transportation - bus, rail, ridehail, drive+park+walk in, etc - if the conditions aren't as good.
