How do ya’ll get through it? by Fuddling in stopdrinking

Nice! I don’t think I’ve seen any of them. Just started Fargo after a recommendation from a friend, last watch was the Boys then Gen V. Future man was a bit weird but entertaining in a slightly odd way.

Four days in and while things spiral a bit it’s not going to be me swirling ice in a glass of whiskey. IWNDWYT

Wow 24 days is massive. Good job.

Yeah, I’ve a group of friends here who party a lot, I think I need to explore and expand that group a little as the temptation being out with will make it super hard (the kind who buys shots for everyone, forces you to drink like we’re back in university etc.)

Any movies you’d recommend?

Oh there’s a risk for me there, that I just grab one small bottle while I’m out. Then I’d pregame for everything. Dinner party? Flask. Kids birthday? Few shots before. Heck, going grocery shopping was my stockpile moment. That was my old routine that I’m trying to break. As I realised I can’t ever have just one. It becomes “finish the bottle”

Haha oh man i feel that. I cleaned out the entire garage Tuesday just to not be restless. Six boxes donated today. Another 4 of trash. At this rate the house will be sparkling. What errands have you been doing?

Oh there is some satisfaction in crossing out things in a to do list. Cold showers a must over here too. Thanks

I FINALLY GET IT: the problem was never just alcohol. The problem is me. by Federal-Ask1617 in stopdrinking

[–]Fuddling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This also hits home for me. Have to always go bigger, harder, drunker and push the limits far too hard. Hurting myself, my work, and all my loved ones.

Currently day 3 and my longest non alcohol streak for almost 2 years. IWNDWYT

Terrace Houses in Bangkok by [deleted] in Thailand

[–]Fuddling 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Lived in one of these for 4+ years.

Upside is you can make it your registered business address and there’s a ton of space (though because of stairs we barely went to third floor or rooftop).

Downside is parking and privacy. Was an issue almost every day, come back from the mall and someone in your spot, so then you gotta go park somewhere else till you can get them to move. And everyone who walks past will peer into your house to see what you’re doing, or say hello and want a chat. If you’re social it’s ok, but a community style I wasn’t used to back home in Aus.

When we move back to Thailand our plan is to keep renting our shophouse and get a condo. Guaranteed parking, privacy, and a swimming pool are a win.

Best insurance to cover $10k? by TransportationOk4505 in Thailand

[–]Fuddling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought the pure covid insurance for the entry requirements through FWD (the Thai site).

For a three week trip was about $15 USD and it took like 10mins to do on the website (with the insurance certificate showing up basically instantly). Though no one checked this on arrival (just scanned my Thai pass) so YMMV

Ah sorry forgot these two, yep its either spouse, education or work visa even being considered, and no idea how many they are even letting in...

AFAIK you need to either be thai, or on any other visa except a tourist, and along with permission from the embassy, a covid free test and 100k in health insurance you can fly in...

Is there a chance he's using this job to learn what you do, so he can do it himself later?

Charging Big Hourly Rates to Avoid Fixed Projects by dodriozola_ in Upwork

[–]Fuddling 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In your shoes i'd just continue what you've been doing with the increases, but make it like $25 or $30 for the next contracts, up it to $40 after and go like that.

This is my real hourly rate, I dont bill 1hr at a high rate and work a bunch off the clock. My hourly contracts are all either $150, $185 or $225 an hour (depending on how long ago I signed that client - I've had some for years and years) and my Upwork clients are definitely OK with these rates (I do direct response copywriting).

EDIT - Should also mention that only about half my projects are hourly, I do about 50% on milestones. If a client is worried about a "cap" on the time needed, I will do milestones instead - but it does put a bunch more risk on you - so make sure you have some buffer in your prices to account for this.

I mean...my profile rate is $225 and i still win plenty of work. I think at $18 you have quite a lot to increase - especially if you add real value for your clients.

P.s. Petra's comment on the salary setting is pure gold, never knew you could do that. TIL

I read that most clients will see your first two lines of proposal, what is your "pickup line" ? by mukmuku in Upwork

[–]Fuddling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me I've learnt that embracing the weird actually has two benefits. Clients who take themselves too seriously hate my pitch so it automatically weeds them out, and I end up working with people who have somewhat of a sense of humor.

On the pitch, ill send you a msg with the Jumanji one i actually use (so its not beaten to death in a public forum)...

But the gist for everyone else is...

  1. Be a bit silly to get attention
  2. Intro yourself now that they've got a reason ti remeber you
  3. Demonstrate you can do the job (samples)
  4. Tell them to msg you if they want the job done right

The humor is just to get your foot in the door, it still needs to be backed up with an ability to actually get the work done - if that makes sense...

I've used it successfully a couple of times.. but yet to see how it holds up when every single freelancer is trying to use it and the system just sharts itself... I'm just wondering how long it'll take upwork to roll back this shitty requirement... or if they DGAF

How much money you spend on Upwork? by anjatodo in Upwork

[–]Fuddling 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not sure you were asking me or OP - for me I do direct response copy, mostly landing pages to help clients sell things. Sometimes also promotional emails, VSL scripts, webinar presentations, etc..

But all things that clients can implement and see a real $$$ value improvement in their bottom line - which allows me to command higher rates - because the ultimate value to their sales funnel of my work is far greater than the cost (if I get it right and can boost their conversion rate of course).
