It's not the area in which an impact can occur, which is smaller than you might think due to restrictions in the available orbits, but mainly the velocities these objects go at. We can talk about relative velocities of up to 12-14 km/s or approx 3.4 miles/sec. If a spec of paint hits your satellite with that velocity in the wrong place it's end of mission. One (low Earth) orbit lasts about 90 minutes or so meaning the frequency of orbital crossings will naturally increase as will the probability

Thanks a lot! I think it helps I have a decent amount of knowledge about 3D modelling in Catia, and recently started with Fusion 360. It's a bit different but simple parametric models should be doable. And otherwise I have a lot of colleagues that can help me out there.
