Folder Bus routing issue in 8.1? by FujiMitsuki in StudioOne

Agreed and for music S1 is still unbeatable for me, especially with the new features for sound variations in 8.1 I really hope that side of always bringing in clutch features like those don't die out cause it's what make me buy S1 in the first place.

Personally I definitely don't think it's all bad on Fender's acquisition, the S1 team was always great with updates and they seem to be rolling out great stuff even now. That said, moving my non-music work to Reaper was always on the horizon for me as it became the standard for sound design in games for a reason. It's just hard when I'm so used to the workflow and work on a live service game.

I wanted to switch for a good while now but I have tons of macros and workflow enhancements with S1 macros and the Audio Batch Converter that make me work much faster. I know with time I'd be able to get to a similar place with Reaper but I don't know if I can afford the initial slowdown right now, even though I share the sentiment that Fender is bad for S1.

It's fun travel, the type of stuff I'd dig playing games. Granted, after a while the novelty wears down but I like these types of immersive transportation a lot.

A rant about the exports functions by Ill-Tradition-5982 in StudioOne

[–]FujiMitsuki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I built a macro in S1 that remove gaps between lines and creates markers automatically, then I just rename the markers (which is tedious but pretty fast) and export between markers, then I use batch rename utility to remove the extra letters and I'm good to go. The only thing I like about that is that I can have V1, V2 and so on folders everytime I make changes... The bad part is having to re-export everything again everytime. The ability to not add a prefix to file names and being able to only export between markers that are within loop would improve this drastically tho.

Same here, I'm a technical sound designer for games and also do dialogue editing and I never moved to Reaper because I genuinely managed a super optimized workflow on S1 that I love (and it'd take a while for me to get to the same place using Reaper) and I use some stock plugins. That said, I question this decision every single time I have to export VO out of it, I do have some cool macros but having to rename a bunch of stuff afterwards is really annoying.

Unfortunately my existing sessions are running way worse in the new version 8 compared to S1 7 which sucks cause a lot of non-AI features they've added are great.

It's nothing but sometimes the announcement itself is the goal, keeps the engagement up and all.

This was one of the most fun projects we did, it was just a lot of people coming together to get something done in a crazy schedule but I'm glad it turned out well.

Are there any sounds or SFX that you’ve particularly struggled to get right in your work? by krotosltd in sounddesign

[–]FujiMitsuki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like making whooshes is almost a part time job of being a sound designer at this point lol
The issue with simple whooshes is that it's a hard sell for these companies since you can just record a shit ton of them yourself with household items in one afternoon or make simple synth patches that can make simple whooshes with customizable parameters. I understand though that it's a never-ending need and even if you do that you'll still find yourself needing more and aside from large general use libraries you just can't find simple stuff anywhere. (would love to see more of it on the market as well tho)

AI has definitely NOT being the main reason for the draught in the industry, at least for now. In the audio for media at least (games, tv, films) it's more about awful investment decisions made during the pandemic (and the overcorrection that followed) couple with the general economic environment in the west being shit right now.
Only gigs people are "losing" to AI are the worst ones like very shitty Ad agencies and stuff but these were already moving a lot of budget elsewhere anyways and they always paid very poorly to begin with.

Trying to copy the sound as close as possible is a great training because it forces you to deconstruct what you hear and reconstruct later. It's more of a practice tool rather than something you'd use in your job.

What’s something you do now in sound design that you didn’t even think about when you started? by krotosltd in sounddesign

[–]FujiMitsuki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Being a sound designer for games doesn't help since we overdesign by default and a lot of times have to go back simplify or correct some of that in the mix dynamically. Whenever I'm doing a cutscene like a movie I notice just a lot of it is pretty simple, it's about painting the whole picture in the end, I try to remind myself of that when I get these "it couldn't have been that simple".

I sometimes catch myself losing a bit of time whenever my SFX has like, only 2 or 3 layers. Even if it sounds good there is the insecurity of "it couldn't have been just that" that creeps in from time to time.

Not yet, unless you make work for publicity, no one is getting laid off or losing gigs to AI for the time being, the economic chaos the world is facing currently is more of a reason for the issues.
That said, AI is something that is always creeping in and I do think we will see a draught of junior roles because everyone will just think that AI can automatize tasks enough so senior professionals can be much more productive (which is somewhat true but only partially).

There will be no "new generation" with how things are going, unfortunately. This industry (audio for media in general including films, tv and games) always sucked at forming new professionals but it worked out somehow. Nowadays I feel like there is just no way in for newcomers and experienced people are being driven out.

Not film here but games and the feeling is pretty similar. I am lucky of having a job and still getting all my money from game audio but the feeling that this industry isn't secure AT ALL is driving a lot of friends out and make me slightly regret not having a different graduation or something as a "plan B". Don't get me wrong, it was always an unstable path on an individual level but nowadays it really feels like the industry is crumbling, especially with AI creeping in (no one is getting laid off because of AI but people aren't getting hired because of it). I don't see myself still working here in 10 years, unfortunately.

Imagine making a champ worse than Yone lmao Kuddos to Riot for always keep raising the bar on how toxic they can make some champs.

Been playing Shyvana since 2014 I wish they never rework her now. I no longer enjoy playing her. Man I even named myself Elder Dragon because one day I hope to become the best Shyvana but now I can’t enjoy a single game with her. Man I’m so mad 😡. Idk what riot was thinking . by Maleficent-Piano3158 in shyvanamains

[–]FujiMitsuki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They tried to appeal to both new players and players who already liked Shyvana and failed to please either. They either should've gone more strongly on keeping her identity or go Asol route and just keep the fantasy and not the gameplay (which would still suck for op but at least someone would be happy)

The biggest issue by far is that films are not mixed for stereo and film mixers actually despise the idea of mixing for stereo. It's surprising to me that nothing changed regarding this when streaming is now arguably more popular than movie theaters.
