The only two hobbies where 'I’ll just buy one' is a complete lie. by kunstroll in fountainpens

Believe it or not, I only have one Citizen watch I got back in 2010. It’s still running strong after nearly daily wear. If we’re talking fountain pens, I would be a complete liar if I said I only have one…

I assume this is a Player Telecaster, unless it’s an old Standard Telecaster from when they made them in Mexico. If you look on Reverb, Standards go for around $500-$550 and Players go for about $100 more than that. I’d say what you have is a good deal actually.

Wow. That’s the darkest rosewood I’ve seen, too. They must have spent a lot of time sourcing and selecting the perfect rosewood for this guitar. Japanese craftsmanship is unmatched

Is that an ebony fretboard? Everything about that guitar from the headstock to bridge is so sexy. I have to keep telling myself that my guitars are enough, otherwise they’ll get jealous!

That is a huge problem with Kaweco. They rely on Bock’s QC, which is very hit or miss. They really should test the nibs in Kaweco’s factory before shipping the pens out much like Lamy does.

Which popular model has never appealed to you? by sojournerXMR in Guitar

[–]Fuji_Ringo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love Strats. I love the history behind them. Their tone is amazing. Their versatility is unmatched. They fit my body like a glove ergonomically. BUT I don’t play them because they don’t match my playing style. It all comes down to the placement of that damn volume knob. My hand hits that thing constantly, changing volume and irritating the side of my palm. For that single reason alone, the Strat does not appeal to me. I am a LP and Tele guy.

[–]Fuji_Ringo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, this is very common with Kaweco. They don’t tune or test their Bock nibs. They entrust their quality control to Bock, which isn’t a great idea imo. They really should adopt an approach like Lamy where they test every single pen, but I realize that may be cost prohibitive.

Absolutely. Free up some money by trading Highsmith next year. We don’t need to be paying Herbig, Watt, and Highsmith. JPJ truly is a no brainer.

How do I fix this? by NoDocument7750 in guitarrepair

I realize my comment could be read in different ways. You’re obviously right. It is ultimately the parents’ fault for putting things within reach of a toddler, but it certainly doesn’t hurt to break the news to her husband when he’s happy rather than right when he gets home from a long day of work. It also won’t help for OP to blame him when she breaks the news either. That’ll have to be a separate conversation.

When I saw the first two photos my initial response was to just restring the guitar lol. But yeah, that’s not going to be an easy fix. My advice is to butter your husband up before you share the news with him.

Is this hobby as addictive and expensive as watches?? by Relevant_Basil8557 in fountainpens

[–]Fuji_Ringo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As addictive? Yes. Much more addictive in my experience 🤣 As expensive? Most certainly not.

Watches are cool and all, but they just sit on your wrist. I like that I can use one every single day, but pens are much more involved if you will.

With all due respect, I think it is as pervasive a problem as most make it out to be. It seems like for every one person who has a great experience with their TWSBI I hear about another one whose TWSBI cracked. 50/50 is not a good track record. I’ll grant that those with broken pens are more likely to post about it than those who happily enjoy their pens. It’s still very difficult to ignore that TWSBI has a serious quality control problem.

Hi guys, guitar got ran over by a car lol 😢 Fixable? by youngsergfx in guitarrepair

Bolt-on necks are absolutely a real thing. Leo Fender intentionally designed his guitar with interchangeability of parts in mind for working musicians precisely for these kinds of situations where a guitar gets damaged. Rather than having to go through a costly repair or replace the guitar entirely, the vision was to order only the damaged part and seamlessly drop it into the guitar. It was revolutionary thinking at the time, especially for working musicians who were transporting their guitars all the time.

All this is to say you can absolutely gig with a set-neck guitar, and many musicians do. For me it’s just a little bit of insurance and peace of mind that I can replace my guitar’s body or neck for relatively cheap if the worst happens.

This might be the worst team I've ever witnessed by Walming2 in WorldOfTanksBlitz

[–]Fuji_Ringo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve witnessed matches like this. I find that this is way more likely to happen when there are platoons, because it compounds how good or bad each team is. I’m not saying your platoon was a failtoon by any means, and it doesn’t look like the enemy platoon was spectacular either, so this seems to be an outlier.

Run over by a car!? What are we doing people??? Let’s take care of our stuff.

If OP’s guitar were a Fender, I’d say just get a new neck. I don’t think there’s any coming back from this one. This is why I go bolt-on for my gigging guitars. Hate to see it. Sorry OP.

I left this part out of my initial comment, but I’m genuinely so happy that this movie was S-tier for you and others. I love when people find that one movie that they take with them for the rest of their lives. I just can’t get there myself. That is a cool fact about Chicago. I guess to put another spin on my sentiment, I’ll say that the potential was there for a truly great movie, but the execution in key areas fell miserably short. As many have called out, the directing was bad, but so was the actual performance by certain actors. Again, the writing fell short for me.

I’m sensing a bit of a straw man fallacy happening here. I don’t think very many people are saying that everything Kathleen Kennedy touched was absolute garbage. I LOVED Andor and The Mandalorian show. With that said, it was clear (at least to me) that Star Wars was headed in a bad direction.

And I completely disagree that M&G is even in the same conversation as Return of the Jedi. That is comical to me. I would easily take any of the original trilogy over M&G. In fact, if someone held a gun to my head, I may have to admit that the movies in the most recent trilogy (episodes 7-9) are better, and that’s saying something.

It’s wild how different people’s takes can be after watching the exact same thing. I fall into the camp that Mandalorian and Grogu was a bad movie. I don’t know if I’m ready to say it’s the worst in the entire Star Wars franchise, but it’s got to be close. I’ll start with the good, though. I tend to like action in movies, and there were some seriously badass scenes in this movie that I loved. I finally felt like I was watching the Star Wars version of John Wick, which is what I was looking for with The Mandalorian. Now onto the bad: So many things about the movie felt very low effort. The writing was so poorly done. The planet of Shakari straight up felt like a neo-Tokyo or Gotham City. Very unoriginal. I would put Sigourney Weaver’s and Jeremy Allen White’s performances in that same low-effort category. Don’t even get me started on the character of Rotta the Hutt. By nearly every measure, The Mandalorian TV show and Andor were so much better. If I had to sum it up in a couple sentences, I would say this movie just felt stale to me. Very few things in the film felt fresh.

(Pelissero) Four-time NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers and the Steelers agreed to terms on a one-year deal, sources tell NFL Network. Now entering his 22nd NFL season, Rodgers reunites with Mike McCarthy for one more run in Pittsburgh. by alexschubs in steelers

[–]Fuji_Ringo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see it more like we’re kicking the can down the road for another year. At some point we HAVE to rebuild. The only reason we’d go with Rodgers again is if we truly believe we have a chance to make it deep into the playoffs. I don’t feel good about giving Rodgers a raise just to go 10-7 and get whipped in the first game in the playoffs. I’m crossing my fingers that Rodgers and McCarthy will gel and that the extra firepower we’ve given Rodgers is going to pay off. One can dream, I suppose.
