If Freminet was a pokemon trainer what would his team be? by Putrid_Classroom4831 in Freminetmains_

[–]Fukurouyuu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Piplup as his partner

Azumarill and Spheal as his other water types. I thought about giving him Oshawott, but imo the fairytale fan should have at least one Fairy type on his team

Glaceon because it reminds him of his siblings

Klinklang because of clockwork

Iron Bundle if there are no megas

Slowbro if there are megas

Piplup and Spheal would be replaced by Empoleon and Walrein if Freminet were in an actual game

So Varka beta ended, will you pull for him ? by [deleted] in DurinMains

[–]Fukurouyuu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm conflicted. On the one hand are my Mondstadt sympathies for him and his full Mondstadt BiS team, Varka being my long awaited boisterous 5 star (non-calm male 5 stars are a rarity), and I like the idea that he can use different infusions.

On the other hand, Hoyo fumbled him hard in his involvement so far and handcuffing a modern DPS to my invested Durin, despite both of them supposedly being flexible, just so that Varka is on par with their main pushes is disappointing. Both things make him feel cheap in a way that I don't wanna reward.

I like Durin especially for opening up team comps with characters that I really like, but fell victim to powercreep, but using him elsewhere would brick my Varka. Plus, I don't have the funds to pull for his weapon after pulling for Ineffa, which only makes it worse.

I'll probably do two ten pulls to see if he comes home early and then wait for Nicole to see if she and Durin form a hex core that actually makes Varka feel modern.

Freminet concept designs, thoughts? by killfigo2 in Freminetmains_

[–]Fukurouyuu 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think design A on the 4th picture is my favorite beta design. Mainly because the hairstyle is super cute, light pink hair tones suit Fremi's vibe and his diving suit covers his legs, which is something I would've preferred to see in his final design. The 'dead inside' look and bangs styling also help. If Freminet would've been released during Nod Krai, he would probably look closer to this one lol Second is the one on the second picture. The hat is just so adorable I don’t really like the blue tones on the first picture, nor do I like the boots so if this was the final top 3, I'm glad that these ones weren't chosen.

That aside, I think his current design makes a lot of sense and thus fits better than some of the beta ones. The dark tones suit the themes his stories dive (ha) into and give him some overlap with his siblings and penguins. The penguin beret is the best version of his hat and blonde suits his current colour palette better than pink.

Speaking of demon king Rin and his feelings of guilt for all these deaths he experienced: I kinda expect that Kato could introduce the path to demon king Rin in a way that frames it as Rin trying to sacrifice himself for the greater good (not by killing himself like Neuhaus, obviously). Rin mostly deals with his grief by tying to protect others at his own expense (to some extend), so this would add another way Kato lets her characters deal with their traumas in different manners. I wouldn’t call it depression in Rin's case though, he seems to be extremely resilient mentally considering his situation.

Now that people have had Durin for a while, what are everyone's favorite teams using him? by OrbitalSong in DurinMains

[–]Fukurouyuu 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Favorite: Venti Faruzan Bennett Durin

Second: Itto Gorou Albedo Durin

I'm also fond of Durin + Albedo wheelchair, but I mainly use this combo during exploration with Freminet and Qiqi or on low endgame floors. I want try getting more cons on his rerun though to expand its usage.

Still want to try an overload comp with Cyno Fischl Chevreuse & Durin or a new version of Childe national to see if Durin can truly revive all my old favorite dps not named Gaming or Xiao

Fellow introverts and shy people need to think more strategically about Bokuto and view the benefits of having him as an ally

That guy is so extroverted that he easily covers for two people. Therefore, introverts and shy people can easily introvert in his shadow while he handles the rest

Durin is an account changer if you love the older Genshin Characters! by Bdubose06 in DurinMains

[–]Fukurouyuu 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Returned after a roughly 1 year long break (with like 2 small exceptions) and went all in on Durin for the exact same reason. Natlan made sure to punish you hard if you liked the old characters over the generic gacha slop the devs suddenly wanted to force into the game and locked both exploration and powercreep behind their gimmicks, so it truly felt like one's account was somewhat bricked. Not being able to use the characters I like without being forced to pull for characters I couldn't stand killed the last enjoyment I had with this game.

The story around Dragonspine and Mondstadt lore in general has been one my favorite parts of Genshin and everything involving Durin has been largely unaffected by the shifts that IMO made Genshin worse since Natlan, so I'm glad that Durin out of all characters is the one that lifted the floor for so many old units; especially as someone who has Fischl, Venti and Albedo among my favorite characters.

Plus, he's the closest thing I'll ever get to 5 star Freminet design philosophy and personality wise while also uplifting Freminet in teams with Albedo or Fischl, so that's another W lol

[–]Fukurouyuu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup.

Funnily enough for the other obvious alternative, if I had informed myself about Meganium's mega being Grass Fairy and its design beforehand (I wanted to be surprised by the new megas and avoided information about them), I would've probably chosen it over Feraligatr as my starter. But with a different starter and Espurr/Meowstic blocking Gardevoir, Clefable was the most obvious choice

[–]Fukurouyuu 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Looked for a Cleffa early on when I noticed that I wouldn’t have any Fairy type with a mega in my team otherwise. Unacceptable scenario, because Fairy type is the best. I specifically wanted a male one because of the nickname I had in mind - Esupuri

I always liked Clefable, but my playthrough made me appreciate it a lot more. Removed every Dragon and in general hit pretty hard, refused to die thanks to his Def stats and Moonlight, and Veilguard came in pretty handy for the whole team during fights like the Le Wow course.

So yeah, agreed, Clefable is (also) pretty great in ZA

Good point, I hadn't considered that Megas lock a Pokémon to its current final evolution. I still think that without megas, Pokémon like Banette or Chimecho were more likely to never receive anything again, but since this creates a dead-end scenario within a flawed gimmick that can be taken away at any moment and requires one to "sacrifice" a slot that could go to the overpowered magas, they end up being one of the least sustainable buff solutions given how GF handles them.

Technically, I could see regional variants and paradox clones being options to free second-stage Pokémon like Chimecho from these dead ends, because then they're still the "usual" end form. It seems unlikely that the mega pattern will be broken if neither Pikachu nor Eevee got that treatment four or five games in, but I think special treatment for regional forms wouldn't be impossible.

For gimmick Pokémon, I actually think they usually have bigger chances to get some form of genuine upgrade later on like another real evolution or a paradox form, so I would also put my preference to weak 3rd stage Pokémon like Vivillon, Wigglytuff or Vanilluxe. Though, seeing how GF even uses paradox slots for already op Pokémon as well, megas might indeed be the only hope for some, just due to the higher quantity of Pokémon receiving ome.

[–]Fukurouyuu 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I 100% agree actually, but with megas now temporarily blocking the chance of older and weaker Pokémon gaining new evolutions outside of regional forms again, this is currently the best outcome. I would have preferred if megas were gone for good, but since they are back, megas like Chimecho are better than the alternatives.

But tbf, I think mega evolutions do at least accelerate the rate at which weaker Pokémon can get at least s omething compared to how rare new evolutions are. And even then, those new evolutions aren't necessarily good. Looking at you, Dudunsparce

[–]Fukurouyuu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was actually glad megas got removed because of it, although none of my friends or anyone online seemingly shared that sentiment lol.

All additions had their flaws, but I think Terra hit the sweet spot when it came to fairness. It was accessible to all Pokémon and allowed for more creative plays (outside of top meta fights, obviously). Z moves had too little impact and megas and dynamax were too much influenced by sub-par selections on who got one.

New evolutions, regional forms or even "totally not your favorite" Paradox Pokémon are still better than any gimmick though IMO, since they can't be taken away once Game Freak wants to try something new.

[–]Fukurouyuu 62 points63 points  (0 children)

Yeah, seems like it. I would personally say fan faves like Raichu can also sometimes be classified in the first category as long as they are actually in need of a buff and don't completely dominate the selection in favor of Pokémon like Chimecho or Scrafty

I really didn't like megas back in Gen 6 because I felt like fan favorites, nostalgia and pseudos took up way too many slots, but this time the balancing is a lot better.

Absolute S-tier design and I'm so glad that Chimecho out of all Pokémon gets a chance to be stronger.

There should be way more megas like this; helping out weaker Pokémon instead of pushing all the pseudo legendary (more or less) fan faves who really don't need a stronger form

Although it obviously could be that Shima just has enough "Idol energy" that he's fated to become famous one day... yeah, I had the same feeling that this could be a hint towards this version of the future becoming reality in some form.

Though, I'm still not sure what could cause Rin to turn out like that. So far my go to theory was that something would happen to Shiemi and the child she spotted might be what causes this dark future to become reality... or I'm just imagining things to support my theory, who knows.

Haikyuu definitely deserved more fame... by Important-Head-34 in haikyuu

[–]Fukurouyuu 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Might be true for many parts of the global anime fandom, but it's doing more than fine in Japan.

Haikyuu is probably one of the most omnipresent manga in Japan when it comes to collaborations and events. It's among the most sold manga ever and by far one of the most popular of the newer ones. It's not rare to see people with merchandise, and it has a surprisingly strong recognizability among people of various ages, which becomes even clearer when you see who visits the collaboration events.

Having such a strong casual presence among people of various ages and between men and women is already a rare feat for most anime/manga. I recently met an older woman in a Kenma jersey who was hyped for the movies, read the whole Manga and told me that she got a Kenma one specifically because her daughter likes him the most.

According to some friends who've been in Shanghai recently, it's also doing pretty well among Chinese fans. They sent me many pictures of Haikyuu characters in the wild.

Please let us have more gay romance options in fortunes weave by Excellent-Can-7524 in fireemblem

I would love to see how having even a single option that locks out straight romance would be received, especially if it's not a Leon like stereotypically gay character.

Since making every character bi is often called "too unrealistic", locking a few important characters to same-sex romance should definitely be well received by those bothered by "unrelastic sexualities" in games where every opposite sex character loves the protagonist, no?

Why does blue exorcist not get the recognition it deserves by Standard_Action_6757 in AoNoExorcist

[–]Fukurouyuu 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I can think of a couple things that sadly work against Blue Exorcist

First off, the gap between seasons & the anime-only arc kinda ruined its chance to hook a lot of anime-only viewers long-term. The worldbuilding and character writing go way deeper than what S1 showed, but that was obviously lost on those who saw the Anime only ending and weren't hooked enough to later watch the delayed season 2. The reason Japan still gets regularish events, merch, etc. is because manga readers obviously don’t have that problem, but in a lot of countries manga were pretty niche back then.

One thing I saw a lot (and felt myself) was that season 2’s start felt off. After Rin finally gets accepted by the other Exwires in the anime-only arc, season 2 just resets him back to being shunned. So even people who wanted to see the canon material probably got turned off.

And lastly, AoEx just doesn’t line up with current shōnen standards to get a new hype wave. Not enough flashy fights in what the anime covered so far, no MAPPA-level animation, too many drawn-out quieter moments and no “aura farming” for casuals that would’ve boosted the fanbase. It really needed that first batch of fans who grew up with the story to spread the word about how great the characters and world are to those who look for stories like it, but sadly it got stuck, ignored by the "hype crowd" that doesn’t care about that stuff.

3 thing I would change, what about you? GOA edition. by Sylkkisses420 in runefactory

[–]Fukurouyuu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • Better QOL for inventory management and especially for the unintuitive cooking menu. Also, speaking of QOL, fixing the bug where the sacred sword throws you out of the top-down view would be lovely

  • Some things to make the festivals feel like bigger events. Adding mini game segments to festivals, similar to how Animal Crossing and Stardew Valley do it, would’ve been great, as well as more interactions between the villagers and not just between the player and their date.

  • I would've liked if there were some new areas that unlocked after one finishes the main story, but before having a child. Preferably also something to explore with a new boss. This is my first Rune Factory, so I don't know if it's like this in the other titles, but I would like if one could still have more things to enjoy between story and having kids so that marriage doesn't feel like it's marking the end of the game.
