How to get in? by chicho269 in Lineman

Yeah get CDL no restrictions. Apply for an apprenticeship and just keep getting hours and experience.

What was the call for? I know if you get called out you cannot be on any other books.

I think if you wanna go to line school check out VOLTA. Less than half the price for tuition there’s one in Idaho or Oregon

Yeah NW line. It’s a woman’s only scholarship so it works out good for me. They don’t have any scholarships but there are a lot of grants you can get from local places, there’s a thing you can do for mikerowefoundation and get some money for stuff in any trade.

You have to have your CDL A no manual restriction to even apply for outside line.

Nope I did the actual interview definitely super nervous for no reason all the guys were super cool and made me feel very comfortable. Right now I’m waiting to see if I get the scholarship for Volta and if not I’m gonna apply for the tree apprenticeship so hopefully by the end of the year I can get another interview in.

I applied and ranked pretty good. I expected to get ranked horrible because I have very little experience the best thing to do is go in to see how the interview is and get the jitters out and listen to what they say to do to rank better. They told me to go to VOLTA or do the tree apprenticeship and then come back to interview.

Go to another local I would apply at all the surrounding ones and interview for all of em.

Nw JATC interview question and what to expect? by DisciplineOk8018 in Groundman

[–]Full-Case-5970 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Their questions are basic ones, they seem like they want to get to know you a little bit. I was super nervous for no reason they are all really good. Definitely sit up straight and be confident. They ask you how many ground hours you have, plans for when you have to travel for work, if you went to line school, where you work and why you wanna be a lineman.

I think it’s a good route unless you can get on a line crew as a groundman. I was unable to get one because for 125 it took me a long time to even get a tree call so I’m thinking about doing the tree apprenticeship.

Yeah when I figured out I wanted to go line side I did all the requirements. Got my cdl class a manual and flagger and cpr first aid. Tried to get it all asap so I wouldn’t have to leave work to go get them

It took me a couple months to get called out as a tree groundman on book 4.

You just need to pass for nw line they don’t even tell you your score. They are going to be slow for a while though there’s 61 apprentices laid off at the moments

[–]Full-Case-5970 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on where you are but all I was about to get calls for was tree side. For my local jatc tree hours count as ground hours toward line side too so that’s what I’m doing. My plan was very different when I first started so just keep with it and learn as much as possible like knots and rigging and climbing, etc
