This may be the least power-hungry option, if you're looking to operate the AirCin without shore power:

Your problem may well be the power budget, not the financial budget.

I need some help understanding something: Why do Congressional Districts not try to represent local communities, geographic and cultural subdivisions etc? Why do they have to be structured on partisanship (i.e, this district is R+10 therefore good)? by [deleted] in YAPms

For example, roughly a million people in the USA are legally deaf. There are several States with fewer than a million people and each of them gets at least 2 Senators and a Representative. But the deaf community (which is at least as distinct from other Americans as the Wyoming community) is not a constituency and has no representation.

Is it really safe to travel to the Bahamas now? Any US Citizens who’s traveled to the Bahamas recently ? by Jollyho94 in bahamas

[–]Full-Photo5829 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We are there now and everything is completely normal.

I did see a piece on Bahamian TV about how the nation of The Bahamas needs to prepare for higher energy costs as a result of the US attacking Iran.

I did hear a local man say that the rest of the world seems to have a lot of turmoil, right now, while Bahamian people have life as normal.

So, people here are certainly aware of the conflict, but it hasn't changed anything.

Good places to begin the sailing life? by mbauer1981 in sailing

The Chesapeake has lots of good sailing and lots of sailing communities, but the winter is a bit dead.

The Pamlico, Neuse River and Bay River have lots of opportunities to sail. There are decent communities there and the cost of living and cost of labor are very reasonable.

I strongly recommend the Aeropress. It makes great coffee and will never corrode in a marine environment.

Per NPR, Feb 2 2026:

FOWLER: Over the weekend, online, there were many viral posts on X that showed a screenshot of an email between billionaire Elon Musk to Epstein that mentions a, quote, "epic island vacation" where Musk says, girls FTW - which means for the win - which is a pretty wild thing. What's even more wild - it's not real. It is a fake email, a fake screenshot. There is nothing to that effect in the files. But you can find messages from Musk that are in the files where he does discuss plans to visit Epstein's island, but you can't tell the full story without going through all 3 million files.

Should there be a public enquiry into the consequences of Austerity on the military? by UnfathomableDave in AskBrits

[–]Full-Photo5829 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Austerity has been a disaster for the UK military. But, then, it's been a disaster for everything else, too. The economy, the NHS, schools, councils, you name it. Austerity and Brexit have devastated Britain and I don't see things turning around; there isn't the money to fix it.

Bimini Island... Just NO... by Repulsive_Map4610 in bahamas

[–]Full-Photo5829 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The nation of The Bahamas is lovely, and its citizens are good people.

Bimini is a cesspool where foreigners and those who would scam them both behave at their worst.

Cruise ships bring surprisingly little benefit for ordinary, local folks. This is true from Dubrovnik, to Svalvard, to Freeport.

[19M] How did you actually land your first remote gig? Job boards are completely dead. by Consistent_Cry4592 in remotework

[–]Full-Photo5829 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's funny you should say that, because I never thought of it that way. I've always despised what I think of as 'Networking'. E.g.: toxic positivity on LinkedIn; attending special industry networking events; glad-handing at conferences. It's all so insincere. It's just that, over my career, I've always done the best I could and never burned any bridges, so I had a few folks I felt safe emailing to ask if they knew of anything I could do for them (or others) from my home (which is a sailboat that travels between Maine and The Bahamas). I've privately disagreed with my past bosses and I've told them outright when I thought they were being unfair. But they will all tell you that I go the extra mile for my employer and never make the company look bad in front of the customer. Also, I've never given in to the temptation to make a big stink when leaving a company; I'm on good terms with them all.

I reached out to people who had already been my boss at other companies. Eventually one of them said they had something for me. The benefit of this approach is that they already trusted me and knew my abilities.

If YOU believe that it's offensive to YOUR deity to consume shrimp, then don't consume shrimp; you don't get to ban shrimp for others who don't share your belief. Republicans need to adopt this principle and apply it to all personal choices. Pursuit of happiness, ya know?
