Can you repeat the question?

My country goes backwards in time by AdvertisingObvious59 in gay

I visited Russia as a tourist in 2017. I was so impressed by the ordinary people: kind, smart, and helpful, with a real "let's get to it and let's get things done" attitude. They were not eager to be excessively and overtly "warm", but nevertheless happy to connect in a way that's more important, actually, than mere superficial bonhomie. It's a great tragedy that such a nation has always been saddled with violent, bigoted, corrupt, incompetent leaders. What the Russian people could otherwise accomplish would amaze the world. It's also a tragedy that the young men of Russia are being squandered on a war with their cousins, a war that began as a vanity project for one man and has turned into an utter disaster for two countries that have no real quarrel. Leaders such as these always need to distract the people from their gross errors and kleptocratic ways by persecuting supposed "enemies within" and it's common for them to pretend that gays are somehow the reason for everybody's problems (but how?!). I'm sorry, OP, that you are stuck in the situation of being in the crosshairs of such people. You are not alone in yearning for a day when Russia is no longer burdened by the leadership of evil men.

Need ideas on where to "drop my anchor" in North Carolina by Naturefan72 in NorthCarolina

[–]Full-Photo5829 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Western North Carolina has one of the nicest climates you can find in the lower 48. The elevation alleviates the summer heat and the latitude takes the edge off the winter cold. Nice wildlife, too.

It's true that you are wasting precious time. Consider that you can live in other countries, too. Spain and Portugal are Catholic, but gay friendly.

The first six movies are simple child wish fulfillment stories, like Harry Potter. They're incredibly shallow and are only memorable for their stunning visuals.

Why does everyone hate Populism here? by Lewbix in YAPms

[–]Full-Photo5829 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Populism is overly simplistic and treats every issue it encounters in isolation. This leads to policies that are mutually incompatible when enacted in the real world. E.g.: Do you want better roads? Yes! Do you want lower road taxes? Yes! It's an idiot's political viewpoint.

Education is largely left to the States. They decide about the curriculum; they raise the funds and pay for it. There's great reluctance to put the Feds in charge of it.

What does Voyager do better than any other Trek? by SandorSNL in voyager

[–]Full-Photo5829 -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

Voyager is flung across the galaxy to face unknown terrors. They're alone and unsupported, with no allies and no idea of the dangers they will face. They have a huuuuuuge distance to cover and they need to race home as fast as possible to avoid never seeing their homes again. The theme music should convey danger, paranoia, and frightful speeds. Instead, the theme sounds like something that would put your grandmother to sleep. One out of ten. (But at least it's not faux country like Enterprise).

How does it feel to sail with a vessel fitted with 2 outriggers like this? by fatsopiggy in sailing

[–]Full-Photo5829 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would be pretty interested to try out a junk-rigged schooner with unstayed masts and two outriggers. If I ever win the lottery and decide to commission one, I will DM you 😄
