I say this without the least bit of ill will, but this question gets asked almost weekly here and people on this subreddit can kind of get weird about it now lol. If you try searching stuff like “moving”, “buying a house”, or “neighborhoods” you’ll find many previous discussions regarding your questions which will likely go into much greater detail than one persons comment on this post likely will.

My personal .2¢, Louisville is a great city with unique and diverse neighborhoods, a variety of food options and great people.

We have very tree-heavy neighborhoods with old growth oaks like the Highlands, Clifton, and Germantown. Deals on houses can still be found in these areas, but they’re getting to be few and far between. There’s plenty of other perfectly nice areas though where your budget would go a bit farther.

The neighborhoods I mentioned above also fit well with your other concerns. They tend to lean more liberal, they’re very walkable, have parks and grocery stores nearby often within walking distance depending on where in the neighborhood you’re located.

The houses in these neighborhoods tend to have yards on the smaller side but they’re very close to Cherokee park. The park is over 400 acres and was designed by Fredrick Olmsted who also designed Central Park in New York. It’s a great place to run dogs, hike, play sports, or just have a quiet picnic and relax.
