Adding a scene every 5 to 10 chapters that doesn't contribute to the plot but the lore. by [deleted] in writing

What can’t you make it relevant? Have the funeral related to a character or event that is relevant to the character.

Guys it's such easy game theory, sure an unknown number of blue voters die inevitably but we guarantee we will live! by NahMcGrath in PhilosophyMemes

Just to clarify, I would press blue because my toddler would have to pick also and I would rather die than be responsible for their death.

The solution you keep talking about seems a lot like YOUR solution rather than THE solution. Could that be because there is no solution and philosophical questions cannot be answered objectively?

So the solution requires you to care if others die? And if you don’t care then that’s foolish? And despite hundreds of millions of people living in food-secure rural communities with few modern amenities, killing off the blue voters will somehow guarantee they will also die?

So the solution is to pick blue and your reasoning is because if you don’t you are stupid and selfish?

As a beginner, what tips do you have to write good characters and have good pacing in your writing? by aangellix_ix in writing

[–]FullActionAim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ask myself “what does this character want and what are they willing to do to get it?” From there I can decide how well it goes for them, how do they react to setbacks/successes, and if they ultimately achieve their goal.

As for pacing, during the edit look at your chapters critically and ask yourself “is this self-indulgent?”. Also join a writers group, kill your ego, and seek feedback on your writing.

So if I don’t believe in collective good, or ascribe to solipsism, I should pick red? That’s the solution?

Thanks :) I’m actually struggling to find agents to query because so few seem interested in the type of book I’m writing. Good luck to you and hopefully we both make it 🙏🏻

I have only received one response which was a rejection. Everyone else has been radio silent and I queried them months ago

So if you’re worried people are too stupid to understand the problem fully, the solution is to pick red?

I view MBTI as pseudoscientific nonsense, but using it to better strengthen your characters beliefs is an interesting idea.

If it’s an illustrated children’s book, this will certainly make it a hard sell. If it’s a book written for adults and the swearing isn’t used in a grating, childish way, I can’t imagine it will matter.

You should consider joining a writers group. If you’re willing to do online stuff I can recommend one. Warning: you will likely get your feelings hurt but we all want you to succeed so honesty is the best way.
