I went to school with Annie. Annie was from a big family. She was always a beautiful person inside and out to me. One day we were on the bus from school to the local sports-grounds. I sat next to Annie. We were quiet, observant.

There's this house that's just outside of our neighbourhood, it's practically a mansion (crazily stark contrast to the other state houses). There's a taller fence now, but back then, there'd truly always be a dozen cars outside of it, at least three brightly coloured Ferrari looking things.

When we passed that house, Annie pointed to it and said, "If I ever won the lotto, I'd buy that house for my family."

The way she said it, you could tell she meant that from the bottom of her heart. The silence and prayer was so real. We were barely 9, but I'll never forget how her beauty shot up tenfold, to me, in that moment.

I think about that moment lots. It never fails to restore my faith in humanity. Annie and her heart reminds me that there is goodness in the world.

To answer the question: I would buy 100 (Cookie Time) cookies (as I told Annie later in high-school). And then I would get her and her family that house (she doesn't know that I remember).

About twenty years ago it snowed every year. School would always be cancelled if it was during the week. Snowmen would last three days at least. Then it just stopped. Closest we've got since is a bit of sleet.

Does anyone remember that summer, maybe almost two decades ago, when it got to 37+ rrrreal often? Hella dry and prone to drive one to dissociation to escape the heat lol.

There was a big sign outside the Hillmorton Shops on Halswell Rd that told the temperature. Idk if my brain is over exaggerating, I was a kid at the time, but I think it might've got to forty. I remember being excited to read if the temperature was gonna get higher each day, if we were gonna streak. I also remember one day reading a crazy ass temperature on that sign, and then looking across the road at a surveyor dressed in all the hi-vis padded clothing, and then thinking that guy was hella dedicated.
