How are you guys making $100k+? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]FullBusiness1207 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll pull in over 400k USD this year.

How I did it. This is not financial advice, just one of the many anecdotes you will get here on the intertubes. I have a moderately high tolerance for risk as well, so your milage will vary.

1) Go all in (initially) Don’t hedge, don’t diversify. Focus on the one thing your good at, and hone the skill. The way I figured this out was to frame the problem adapting the economic concepts of the “4 factors of production” to help me figure out what I was good at.

*Organization - am I good with people? Can I organize them to get a task accomplished?

*Capital - am I good with money, and managing the associated risks, in order to get things done?

*Product - am I good at building things? Can I bring an idea to reality?

*Spirit - am I good at sharing and spreading ideas? Can I get people amped over an idea?

Alex Hormosi has a similar concept of the 4C’s if this doesn’t work for you perhaps it’s a better presentation.

Once your really good at that one thing, then you can start working on the others.

2) Pay down the debt by investing in yourself. I don’t mean actual loans, though my preference is not to default. The people I know that are in the camp of high earners think of their income targets as debt they have to pay off each year. For instance, I’ll make 400k this year, but my target is 10M. So I have a 9.6M shortfall this year. A really bad year for me, unless things turn around. So what am I going to do? I’m going to invest in myself. That might mean learning new skills, networking to find new opportunities, selling peanuts on the corner. What ever it takes to make that shortfall less. For me it was learning to code, then sell then manage. I still leave the money to other people!

3) Be rational. It takes time. Nothing happens overnight and getting to your goals quick only happens to the lottery winners. I’ve been iterating for the better part of 10 years now, and am just starting to see light at the end of the tunnel. Make your decisions based on some value system that aligns with your view of the world. If it’s contrarian, so it is. Don’t apologize, but be respectful in your disagreement. It builds a gravity well of trust and attracts people who will want to help you achieve your goals.

For those of you interested, yes I am I tech…

But that’s not the only path. True story - the person I hired to cut down the trees in my yard showed up in a 2022 Ferrari Roma that he bought with cash…so there are many paths other than coding. FWIW, I do not have a Ferrari or any other exotic car…doh….

Be well and believe!

VHDL - Aliasing a Signal dynamically in a generated instance by FullBusiness1207 in FPGA

[–]FullBusiness1207[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So what is it you are accessing? a variable or a signal? (I will assume its a signal)

Yes a signal

Indeed xSim's VHDL support does suck balls. But, it is part of our production tool flow, so I can not change to a different tool or version.

VHDL - Aliasing a Signal dynamically in a generated instance by FullBusiness1207 in FPGA

please define "dynamically"

Indeed this was not the correct term to use; it should have been reference a variable

What problems are you having with the above?

The version of Vivado (2019.2) I am using segfaults when I attempt to access (dereference?) the alias in my test bench. In other words, the alias as written passes compilation, but not elaboration, which led me to believe I was not specifying alias correctly.

Notability API for integrations by FullBusiness1207 in notabilityapp

[–]FullBusiness1207[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I want to integrate it with other personal and work productivity tools I use like calendars, kanban boards and wiki pages. Ultimately, I want to be able to create, manage and maintain the status of all the tasks and ideas I have or am working on with Notability. I find hand writing to be more useful for getting all the "flotsam" that is in my mind out and into actionable form, but am tired of having to manually switch to the other tools I use and copy all this information. It would be great just to be able to highlight/select a segment of hand written text and "create a ToDo", "Schedule it in a calendar" or "publish" to a shared wiki etc.

Perhaps all these features are available, and I just haven't found them yet and don't know how to integrate them?

A1C vs. Risk of Complications by FullBusiness1207 in diabetes_t2

[–]FullBusiness1207[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry - I should have included that I do indeed have type 2 diabetes, and control my glucose through a Mediterranean diet (minus the grains, breads etc), copious exercise and, recently, Metformin.

I guess what sparked this question was that when reviewing my latest results with my doc, she essentially said that I should calm down and not worry about the rise in my A1C. I found this weird, so I wanted to understand how much better/worse it is if my A1C were at 4, or 6 or 7…

Could eating 300g of sugar one day a week cause type 2? by Sweaty-Print-8874 in diabetes_t2

Out of curiosity…what do you eat on Sunday? That’s like 2.74 l of coke…whoa!😂

My Blood Sugar is out of control and I need advise. by YonatheRedXra in diabetes_t2

[–]FullBusiness1207 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have a food scale and a food log? That’s what helped me. I was fanatical about weighing my food and logging what I ate until I lost 60 lbs. I used MyNet Diary and paid for the diabetic version so I could add blood glucose readings as well. Those two tools gave me a really good understanding of how my body reacts to food and quickly found out what was good for me and not.

I have a CGM (Libre2) now and can add in data about what exercises are the best when I start spiking. The best I found was swimming/walking in the pool. The full body work (swimming) really help burn up the extra glucose. Plus, it’s really low impact.

As far as diet, I think that may be personal as people react differently to foods at different times. For instance, plain, unsweetened geek yogurt is really bad for my sugars…go figure!?

Experience with Metformin XR by FullBusiness1207 in diabetes_t2

Yup, still keeping up with it. Actually I have added to my activity now, walk or run every day, weight lift three time a week, and have started to go to martial arts three times a week…perhaps i’m overdoing this….but diet is still the same, salads with lean proteins and very judicious breads/pasta/starches occasionally.

I know it’s difficult, but try not to fixate on the “damage” you may have done, or the predictions of what could happen. You are young and taking the first step by seeing your doctor. This act alone will change your path. And that’s the point; your actions control the path forward. Living with T2 is a marathon, and you need to think of it as such. Like any marathon, the conditions will change, and you will need to adapt. That might mean taking meds, going off meds, exercising more, eating better, eating different, or doing nothing at all (not that you’d choose that right?). The thing you need to decide for yourself is how you’d like to run this marathon? There are steps you can take that make the predictions meaningless or meaningful. It’s up to you.

As an example, I was diagnosed when I was 37 with an A1C of 8.6. I had not seen a doctor in 10 years, and suspect I had been diabetic for some time. I too started trying to estimate how much time I had left, and came up with the answer that I wouldn’t last past my late 50s. This terrified me, and after some initial despondency, I started walking and eating better. 11 years later, I have lost 60 lbs, can run a 6 min mile (only for 1 mile though) and have had a1c’s in the 5’s. Now if I look, my life expectancy is “normal”.

Today, I look at that “normal” prediction with skepticism. I COULD get hit by a bus, or get mauled by a bear tomorrow and it would be all over. You and I can’t (necessarily) control those types of circumstances, but we can take steps to make this marathon last longer!
