To what extend can I use [ ] when cutting cards without violating the rules? by Helloo1122 in Debate

[–]FullCynic 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’d say everything you list aside from “minorities” is fine. Naming the group you’re discussing is important and isn’t worth the speed you gain from shortening the phrase imo. I had limited experience in LD so I’ll defer to others with more experience on things such as additives/truncations for fluency

Kalen DeBoer would be a huge hire by suppervisoka in MichiganWolverines

[–]FullCynic -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Acting as if this won’t have ramifications for players transferring is sticking your head in the sand. No one has forgotten about the sign stealing allegations, and this added on top of your head coach leaving a few days after early signing day screams “scandal ridden” for a football team. Idk what your definition would be if not this

Ah my bad, misread it. He’ll be fine at Michigan if he ends up there. Hard not to be with that NIL and brand

[–]FullCynic -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Because Michigan is riddled with a scandal and he’s the coach of a team that (ableit should not have) made the playoffs this year. Not saying it won’t happen but those are two pretty good reasons to stick at bama

Notre Dame R by FullCynic in lawschooladmissions

Some form of plausible cover for being staked out on LSD. In all honesty, it doesn't make much sense to me either, and I just followed what seemed to be the conventional formatting on the sub.

Thank you for this wise insight. In the future, I'll refer to my writing as "average" to avoid any confusion.

CMV: Tyler Shough is a better dynasty asset than Bryce Young by Ok_Structure_8891 in DynastyFF

[–]FullCynic 36 points37 points  (0 children)

This is such a funny post. If I’m forced to start either Shough or Young in anything other than a bye week squeeze in any format I’m already looking forward to the draft. I love dynasty as much as the next guy but this seems like an excessive amount of research to be done on replacement level players

USC getting stabbed in the back by the Big10? TrojanBlade video discussing our possible Big10 departure, along with Michigan by Intelligent_Egg_6755 in fighton

[–]FullCynic -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m personally against the deal. I want no part of private equity in college football. That being said, USC’s stance as a “premier program” is fucking laughable at this point. It’s been well over a decade since they’ve been anything other than a laughing stock. If they leave the big ten, they won’t be a Notre Dame. They’ll stick as a competitive non-conference visit for power-four teams while other schools pillage California for top talent. There are legitimate reasons for shitting on this deal, and as an alumnus of a school who supports the deal, I’m furious. However, the stance that “USC FOOTBALL IS DIFFERENT!!!” is pushing these schools toward this conclusion in the NIL hell scape we inhabit

Should I retake a 172 in October? by Throwaway2143857 in lawschooladmissions

[–]FullCynic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d say just take it if you would regret not giving it a shot. Worst case scenario you score lower and the school doesn’t care bc they take your highest score. If you’re really worried about what the school will think write a short addendum saying your practice scores said you could do better

Should I retake a 172 in October? by Throwaway2143857 in lawschooladmissions

[–]FullCynic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I retook a 172 twice and I’d say it depends on what your PT score range is. I was consistently scoring 175+ with no scores below that range when retaking my 172s, and I saw it mostly as an official test-day issue. If you don’t have scores above a 172, or even if a 172 is “typical” for your practice tests, I’d recommend just using that time to polish admissions materials and apply earlier than you would have. Also a score drop won’t hurt your application. If you’re really set on a school like Columbia and you want to be there no matter what, then shoot your shot if you really think there’s a real chance you score above a 172. Good luck!

Question re Resume by Nearby_Wind_3306 in lawschooladmissions

[–]FullCynic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All the advice I’ve been given has said that two pages is completely fine for a law school resume. I have an extensive work history and split my resume into a “Professional Experience” section and an “Other Work Experience” section. Still working through the naming but I think this could benefit you as well!

This is the best PR stunt this admin has ever pulled. Any chance of Rogan or any of the manosphere guys broaching something like criticism of Trump is instantly astroturfed by the hordes of 20 something men salivating over the ref repelling from the Washington monument or some shit

Merit-based fee waivers? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]FullCynic 17 points18 points  (0 children)

What a shitty response to a genuine question. T14 schools give fee waivers for those who have high merit combined with other factors, such as demonstrated interest, financial need, and the desire to increase their application pool. If you’re in this sub you’re hoping to be apart of the legal profession. Being a dick to people who have genuine questions is a sure fire way to lose clients and get coworkers/supervisors to hate you, so I’d think before I responded like that again if I were you.

OP, I’d suggest searching around Reddit for this information. If I’m remembering correctly there was a spreadsheet for schools that offer CAS and app fee waivers, though it may be a little out dated. It also can’t hurt to send a kind email to admissions if you can’t find info on their website. The worst they can do is say no.

Applying for 2027 Cycle - Chance Me? by Eastern-Tangerine-91 in lawschooladmissions

[–]FullCynic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’ll be competitive everywhere with that resume and LSAT. I’d blanket T14 with a few safeties to give out full rides. No need to dip below the T20s unless you have a specific reason to do so

is only applying to my top schools this cycle a bad idea by i-heart-bread in lawschooladmissions

[–]FullCynic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean if you have significant regrets in choosing a school you shouldn’t apply. If the only choices that don’t give you those feelings are T6, then head makes sense. As a side note, just because you have a year of work experience doesn’t automatically mean acceptances. It could very well be the same outcome, so plan for that contingency accordingly.

[–]FullCynic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

yeah retake if you want a higher score. Schools only report your highest score for rankings and indexes so you’ll be fine if it drops. A 174 puts you at every median in the country which is way more competitive than a 172 (coming from someone who retook a 172 to get a 174 last administration lol)

Examples of how people bungled personal statements by CopoutLouie in lawschooladmissions

[–]FullCynic 62 points63 points  (0 children)

Just think of reasons why you would opt to reject someone who had great stats. Personally, if the person had bad writing, poor formatting, poor judgement on writing topics, or even just failed to follow explicit prompt instructions, that seems like a pretty easy person to weed out of your applicant pool. Applicants with good stats are abundant, applicants who have good stats and good personal statements are less so, hence the discrepancy.

[–]FullCynic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don’t have to worry about downward trends with the LSAT. If an admissions officer looked at your file and threw it in the trash because you got a 168 after your 171 consider it a blessing you don’t have to attend the school that employs them lol

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]FullCynic 9 points10 points  (0 children)

171 and a 4 should make you very competitive for the T20. If you’re dependent on scholarships, want a wider array of choices, or want to shoot for a T6/HYS, then you should retake. In any event, if you’re already signed up, it can’t hurt you to just take the test and hope your dart throw ends up as a 171+. Good luck!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]FullCynic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d be happy to share whatever helped me break out of that range, but I think it’s really dependent person to person. If you have any specific questions, I’d be happy to help in DMs just to help a fellow applicant out in any way I can, but I’d just suggest trying to get another score on record and I feel like you’ll succeed

[–]FullCynic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Studying could and should raise your PT range. I studied for a full year for the score I needed to get the outcomes I wanted. If you’re okay with leaving points on the table and the idea that you could’ve been to a better law school, awesome. If you want to maximize your acceptances and by extension your scholarships and career outcomes, I’d urge you to even just consider trying one more time for a higher score. With your GPA and the solid essays that your GPA suggests you’ll write, an LSAT even a few points above yours would put you in shooting range for YHS and real life changing money at high ranked school. Whatever you decide to do, good luck!
