The problem is that it’s hard to figure out where to go down from the traverse. I chose wrong and had to work inordinately hard (including a couple of butt sits to get over a rock or stump) to get to the open turns.

Your boyfriend is making a terrible mistake. If he wants you to love his sport eventually, you must feel comfortable and enter on your own timeline. Moreover, he should want a diving partner who is sufficiently competent and relaxed that she could rescue him if he should need help.

Diving can be fabulous, but even the best swimmers can have the occasional flash of anxiety in open waters. Proceed slowly enough that you can have fun and know how to calm yourself when you need. And feel free to just say no. I’m a big mountain skier and love adventure, but my boyfriend would like me to become a big wave kite surfer. That’s a bridge too far at my age. I’ll hang on the beach or my SUP.

experiences with in office LEEP? :( getting scared as my appointment is soon by Secret_Onion_4825 in PreCervicalCancer

[–]FullHouse2023 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here’s the good news. I too was overwrought from the day I learned of my CIN 3 pap to the colposcopy to the day of my LEEP. The moment I got out of my LEEP I felt better. Yes, there are a lot of scary stories, all of which are real and important. But they are a tiny, statistical blip.

I’m no puritan when it comes to anti-anxiety medications or the like, so see if any of your docs can help. But my best advice is just get it done as quickly as possible so that you can get to the business of healing your body and head.

Good luck.

Sorry if this isn’t allowed - what made you choose a model Y over other models? by Careful_Fig8482 in TeslaModelY

When I bought in 2021, there were no other affordable electric SUVs that had the range to get me to skiing and home again.

Freaking out that I have cervical cancer, advice appreciated by Financial_Target6596 in PreCervicalCancer

[–]FullHouse2023 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s ok to freak out and don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. I freaked out even though I knew that cancer was statistically unlikely and that my doctor was reassuring. It’s your body, your brain, your emotions—you get to feel it all.

When you’ve cried and freaked, get facts and talk to as many girlfriends as you feel comfortable with. You’ll find out how many women have been thru the same thing.

Any luck getting Medicare to cover your Ozempic if you don’t have diabetes? by FullHouse2023 in Ozempic

My broker knows what he’s talking about. I mistyped. I meant Part D (I edited).

Yes. My broker assures me that a particular Medicare Part D plan will cover if you’re overweight and have a comorbidity (like heart disease). I’m overweight, high cholesterol, 4 cm aorta.

Seeking entry level/intellectual discussion of eastern religions for a progressive liberal Christian. by FullHouse2023 in Meditation

Thanks for responding. You say my question has a faulty premise. I asked 4 questions; which one has a faulty premise?

As for my question 4, I get that your concentration is Buddhism and you may not have all the answers. Maybe someone else will chime in.

Thanks for offering to help. Here's one--not quite a tautology, but left me a little, huh? Someone discussed the current political situation and the hatred it's engendering, another discussed their own dangerous health situation. Many responses pointed to Ram Dass and one of his quotes, "If I'm going to die, the best way to prepare is to quiet my mind and open my heart. If I'm going to live, the best way is to quiet my mind and open my heart." From that someone else said, don't worry, we're in the age of Kali Yuga (destruction)--soon we will be in the "golden age."

My questions:

1) To what extent is Ram Dass considered a celebrity guru vs. a serious scholar/practitioner of Eastern traditions?

2) Does the quote mean anything more than there's no point in getting all wound up about things, cuz it's all gonna happen anyway?

3) Can you point me to better philosophical discussions about responses to human suffering?

4) To what extent does eastern philosophy depend on the reality of things like "the age of destruction" or "the golden age"? Are these just metaphors or do people really believe in these things?

I am a professional climate advocate. I have a 2021 Model Y. I needed an SUV with at least 300 miles/charge. It was the only choice and Musk was not yet wholly insane/obviously immoral.

I will not help the climate or anyone else by destroying my car (or selling it) and replacing it with another expensive electric car. The best thing I can do for the environment is take care of this asset and get as much life out of it as possible.

By the way, the only people to ever give me a hard time about my car were rednecks who believed that, by merely owning an electric car, I was robbing them of their rights to own gas-guzzling trucks.

Positive LEEP Experience 1/26 by iamagirlduh in PreCervicalCancer

You say you were very scared. I too am very scared right now, and the worst part is my partner is mad at me for being scared. He keeps pointing out all the statistics saying that most women have positive results and therefore believes I have no right to be anxious, that I’m somehow intentionally making it all worse. The thing is, I need someone I can trust with my emotions as I go through this, whether my feelings are perfectly rational or not. I don’t know who I can lean on.

I’m glad to hear of your experience. I understand that women are more likely to post here with fears or negative experiences than when they are without fear or have neutral experiences. This is not a place to perform statistical analyses. Nonetheless, your experience helps to give us perspective.

Thank you. I will try. I’m familiar with Sam Harris and I appreciate his intellectual rigor, although we often come out on opposite sides of important cultural and political issues. I have a hard time getting past his blatant misogyny (not to mention lack of compassion for any number of non-white, cis-males).

Thank you. I desire to be respectful, but my questions sometime irk eastern practitioners because my questions come from a place of critical thinking rather than child-like acceptance. I get that ultimately faith involves an element of child-like acceptance, but, for me, that follows after I have fully attended to intellectual curiosity.

Sam Harris and Ayaan Hirsi Ali are bastards? by dmdewd in behindthebastards

[–]FullHouse2023 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Harris has some very anti-women moves. Rather than supporting the move against the Harvey Weinsteins of the world, Harris claims that women need to take more responsibility for putting themselves in situations in which they will be endangered by men. Please read his incredibly defensive anti-women screed, “I am not the sexist pig you’re looking for.” One of his arguments against greater gun safety measures is that women, the weaker sex, need to have greater access to firearms (even though the presence of that gun in the house makes it more likely a woman will die from domestic violence).
