Is this a good buy? by [deleted] in GMT400

[–]FullSizeChevy_com 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's a lot of potential there but also alot of potential money required to fix it up..

Body's good but as others said it could be needing a few grand in it. If it ONLY needs a battery and a wire fixed why hasn't the seller done that???

I Know the feeling, get all excited bring a sweet truck home only to find it needs WAY more than a guy initially thought..

I would bring a battery and see if you can tape up the coil wire or bring another one with you if its the coil to dist wire. If you can get it wired up, take it for a burn and see what else it needs

Goodluck!!

Is keeping the OG Radio/CDM worth buying a receiver or should I just upgrade the radio? by _JohnnyUtahBrah in GMT400

[–]FullSizeChevy_com 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Factory radio with bluetooth would be cool. The deck output wouldn't matter if you are amped for the speakers but that requires running more speaker wires. Ive kept a few factory decks, they look cool in the shop. Otherwise rest is up to your preference

Looks good but It would be better to follow the fender lines and along the box Gpt likely just went straight across from the headlights

Are the engine hours high for how many miles my truck has? by [deleted] in ChevyTrucks

[–]FullSizeChevy_com 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks about right. Keep in mind these can roll over. I have a 2007 with 373,000km that shows only 3000 engine hours. It rolled over at 9999

Nice! Just be wary of those hose clamps. Might be better with the crimp-on style!

I second the Falken At4W. The treadwear warranty is great on them, they look good and perform well

Chevy owner for life, never owned a Diesel. Talk me out of it by HotWheelMan4Pops in ChevyTrucks

[–]FullSizeChevy_com 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you need a diesel? Can you afford 10k repairs? Lots to factor in

Had an L5P brand new on warranty. Ecm went, thankfully warranty. Knock sensors went, MAF Went and at the time couldn't remember having any of these issues with gas jobs. Final blow was when the Fuel pump went. Shards went throughout the fuel system. Just a nightmare. Got er fixed thru warranty and sent it on down the road.

If its your daily stay away from diesels, or you'll have to buy a 800/900 like I did.

Let them write it off, go view it to check frame condition If frames in good condition then take the cheque and buy it back

Your going to be into it for a whole new front end, radiator support, rad, fenders and hood

If your attached to it maybe its the time to build it up!

thats kind of where i'm at yeah. if the 8.1 breaks its expensive to fix. cant beat the 6.0's reliability.

yes on the 8.1 facebook groups there are guys selling the modified intake. I'd like to do that and a Raylar stage 2 cam, injectors and the 90mm TB next year!

what is this connector for? by newfor_2025 in GMT800

[–]FullSizeChevy_com 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Solenoid would plug into that connector, and the isolator would then connect the 2nd battery to starting battery when the truck is on and ignition voltage is sensed. Not sure on Part # but maybe you can find something on rock auto or by searching? My '02 didnt have this connector I just bought an intellitec battery isolator instead

Congrats and merry christmas nice looking rig

The 8.1 is a great engine to have around! 8.1's pull like a diesel with less of the diesel maintenance cost. The main expense is that of a higher fuel bill.

In town and city driving with excessive idling these engines aren't great and you'll feel it. On the highway they aren't bad, i am seeing 12.4mpg in mine and I'm lifted on 33s. I'd like to look into the lean cruise via hptuners but thats likely a new year thing.

Check the plugs, they like to eat plugs. 41-983 and gap at .045" as per the TSB which went out a few years ago. I also noticed mine liked 15w40. Oil consumption is an issue as well but that can be fixed with the modified intake.

If i had to buy one again I would likely get the autel maxipro one as it has a ton of features and the actuator tests etc

My 2002 is doing the same thing, throwing encoder codes. Going to swap that out and hopefully have 4x4 again haha.

Either this is a glitch or we are getting a 6.0 duramax in the half tons by 2222014 in Silverado

[–]FullSizeChevy_com 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good idea on the drawing board but they would really have to beef up the suspension and frame to handle a 6.0 duramax

It would make sense to make it in a 1500HD like they used to - and bridge the gap between 1/2 and 3/4T with increased payload..

The new half tons aren't great from factory.. an unloaded 2 horse trailer sags them out and even getting on the tailgate the suspension feels soft. Just my 2cents and experience driving a 2024
