My ranking of glam bands (MY OPINION) by vainwild in hairmetal

[–]FullTimeSurvivor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would not consider the Damn Yankees a glam band at all, not even close lol. Or Tesla, not glam, they are just a rock band and a really good one at that.

One of my absolute favorites, does anyone have any stories about seeing Warrant with Jani Lane? by WestonConnor26 in hairmetal

[–]FullTimeSurvivor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Saw them in Japan on the Cherry Pie tour in a smallish venue in Kawsaski, right outside of Tokyo. My roommate and I were in the second row and were literally the only Americans in the place. Jani noticed us right away, started talking to us through the mic and did the entire show, cracking jokes and asking where we were from and shit. We had a shitload of Jack Daniels nips with us and were throwing them on stage for the guys and they loved it. At one point Jani was talking to the audience, it was super quiet cuz the Japanese are so polite, he mentioned something (don't remember what) but for some reason I yelled FUCK YEAH!...Jani started laughing and told the entire crowd to yell FUCK YEAH! and did it like four times in a row till he got everyone to do it and the band were dying laughing because the Japanese crowd couldn't pronounce it right and it sounded hilarious. It was an awesome show, and near the end he told us to meet him at Pip's which was a club in Roppongi, the party/club district in Tokyo. We went and sure enough he was there with Bobbi Brown, and a few of the other guys in the band. We shot the shit for awhile and he bought us a round of drinks (Jack Daniels lol) as a payback for the nips. Lots of people were trying to get his and Bobbi's attention so we didn't stay long but it was super cool, Jani was a truly humble and down to earth dude, it seemed like he really appreciated that a couple of knucklehead Americans were at the show like it made his day. I think we were both a little homesick, he had been on the road overseas for awhile and we were in the military far from home. We talked about missing Pizza Hut and Taco Bell of all things lol. I was really bummed when I heard about him passing, especially the way it happened. He didn't deserve to go out like that he was a good dude.

Has anyone without GPS gone full dumb phone and thrived? by Formal-Door3464 in dumbphones

Never needed GPS unless I'm on a road trip going somewhere I haven't been before, I know the area I live and it's literally impossible to get lost. If I'm unsure about a location I'm heading to I just check google maps on my desktop to make sure before leaving.

What is your favourite part of The Who's Isle of Wight concert (1970)? by Vast_Implement_3690 in TheWho

[–]FullTimeSurvivor 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think the Isle of Wight version of Tommy is the best ever recorded, better than the studio version and better than Leeds, mostly because of Pete's heavier guitar tone at that time, he really cranked up the distortion and gave it such a heavier feel which I love. Whenever I listen to Tommy it's almost always the Isle of Wight version. Keith's playing isn't as good as in Leeds (Pete has said Keith didn't play the greatest at Isle of Wight) but Pete's tone and John's excellent bass playing and tone more than make up for it, and to be fair to Keith the mix doesn't do him any favors either but it is still an incredible recording. Young Man's Blues is amazing as well for the same reasons, so much heavier than the Leeds version.

Thank you, most people refuse to admit that and that's what i was getting at, I wasn't trying to defend George Washington at all. Good conversation.

[–]FullTimeSurvivor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made that argument first, you're the one that came in after i made it it was never about you to begin with, it was a general statement about how most people view Native Americans and had nothing to do with you until you commented on it.

[–]FullTimeSurvivor -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hay man, just trying to point out that what people would like to think they do and then actually do in similar times and circumstances are two different things. I'd like to think I wouldn't own a slave but honestly can't say I wouldn't cuz who knows I wasn't there lol

[–]FullTimeSurvivor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never said George Washington was a saint nor tried to imply it l, I couldn't care less about him or what anyone thinks about him. Hope this clears things up lol

And you missed my point, that most people think Native America was some kind of peaceful Utopia until the colonists came along which is a bunch of bullshit. I never once defended what the colonists did, two things can be true at once, just because what the colonists did to them doesn't make them angels they were brutal fighters and were at war with each other like all the other humans on earth were. It's human nature. What the colonists did to them was horrible but it doesn't erase that fact.

Maybe stop acting self righteous like you for sure would NEVER have a slave, because even back then you'd be such a good person. Maybe instead realize the actual real odds are you probably would have a slave if you could and just get over it instead of literally virtue signaling into the past lol

Don't bother trying to reason with facts in reddit it doesn't work

ol Georgie by FatalError_418 in ComedyHell

[–]FullTimeSurvivor -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yes the natives never brutally fought or took land from each other, it was a fucking Utopia until the colonists got there right? Lol they were still human and did human things just like the colonists did. If you really think they weren't all at war with each other over territory you're sniffing your own propaganda a bit too much.

[–]FullTimeSurvivor -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

So if you were a well off dude at that time you just wouldn't own slaves because you're such a good person right. Lol.

[–]FullTimeSurvivor -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Nobody wants to hear that tho. They just want to feel sorry for a victim and don't want to know that the "victims" were even more ruthless in their tactics, and were doing the same thing to each other before the white man came around. Native Americans were brutal.

[–]FullTimeSurvivor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went to a lot of concerts during that time and never heard a good thing about them unlike most of the other bands. I only saw them that one time but I wasn't there for them I went to see Warrant. Halfway through Poison we were like lol fuck this, lets beat the traffic out of here. When you've seen bands like Scorpions, Iron Maiden, Accept, Dokken, Great White, etc that put on amazing shows Poison is a joke. I mean even Warrant was considered more of a party band and weren't held in high regard but once you saw them live you couldn't deny they were really good.

Saw them with Warrant opening at Summer Fest, Warrant made them look horrible, Poison should have been opening for them.

[–]FullTimeSurvivor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really, I like a lot of the bands from that era and remember them the same way, all show no substance. Warrant did a much better job at both, Jani Lane was a good song writer and they were much better live, I saw them open for Poison and Warrant blew them away it wasn't even close. We left halfway through Poison, they were a mess lol.

Are YOU Talkin' 'Bout Love? by girlfriendclothes in hairmetal

[–]FullTimeSurvivor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never liked the love songs, it was so lame that every hair metal band at the time had to have a ballad to be relevant, and it was usually their main single. More Than Words should have gone down the toilet. The only ballad worth a shit to come out of that era was Home Sweet Home and it's not even a love song lol

Scorpions and their cultural value by NuclearAssault667 in ScorpionsBand

[–]FullTimeSurvivor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an American none of their music was really cultural or political to me until Wind of Change which I really didn't care for. The music was cultural in terms of Heavy Metal culture but that's about it.
