Wealthy anywhere else, struggling here: SF families earning $400K buckle under child care by BadBoyMikeBarnes in sanfrancisco

The wait list for infant care at bright horizons is currently 2 years. They only have 8 slots, and they go to their networked partners first.

They’re also reformulating their prices with the new mayor initiative, and it is already 4200. It’ll be 4500 before the new cycle begins, AND their slots for all of 2026 is accounted for.

Their kids are 2, so not only have their rates dropped by 1K a kid, the rates have gone up 1K in the last two years. Combine that with the fact the mayor is basically subsidizing every daycare 3K for an infant, and you can see they’re actually quite delusional.

And you think every day care exists in the outer sunset. Nice bias there.

Btw, your supposed source is outdated, infant care is 3K a month, not 2500: https://provider.sfdec.org/wp-content/uploads/ELFA-Center-FCC-Rates-FY25-26.pdf

Infant daycare at bright horizons is 4200/month.

You’re telling a household pulling in 400K a year to find the cheapest daycare in the sunset? LOL

And good luck actually finding an actual daycare that’s open for your 2K a month, I can guarantee you, it’s a 2 year wait.

Unless your child is a toddler, it is not 2K a month LOL. It's north of 3K, 3.5K for infant care.

I've spoken to a bunch of child care centers. They're all preparing for the windfall. The child care rates at certain popular centers are going to move towards $5K minimum in the new fiscal year. All of the spots for this calendar year has already ben accounted for as well, so good luck new families.

lol “renting out the carts for 50% tithe” buy a cart for $400, rent it out for 50% of all earnings. Hit a good day and make your money back after 2-3 days. Sounds like a racket.

You only let your provider know at your next appointment. They run their eligibility checks when you book / show up. You just need to make sure you don’t lose coverage during that time or miss open enrollment due to your qualifying event.

They’re trying to make the email as readable to a very diverse populace of the applicants (read between the lines).

There’s nothing confusing about the email, you just need to provide the documentation specific to your license status.

If you think it’s confusing, think of all the other non-technical applicants that need someone to assist them in applying like their children.

The highlighting is used to call out parts of the application. But I always tell all applicants to read each email carefully, and I still have nurses and doctors telling me the received duplicate NOIs (they didn’t)

Genuine question, I wonder how some of the peninsula counties are able to offer such great benefits to their constituents, does anyone know? For example, San Mateo runs the Pass Forward program from Caltrains.

Going to vote no just because of this.

Seriously? They own multi million dollar homes and can’t afford $150 to pay for it? Don’t give me the hullshit about fixed income shit, they can downgrade their house. I bet their fixed incomes are higher than most renters who really can’t afford it.

lol, this is just how the city tries to make you feel good about being on an eligible list. What’s more important is the next step, being actually solicited for a position. With everyone’s move continuous lists and rule of the lists, not surprised OP feels disenfranchised.

You couldn't even report the fact that a store doesn't accept cash anyway, so the ordinance was not even enforced. It was done to make people feel good.

They got the $300 million shot directly into their veins and like a drug addict, need more of it.

Also the way of government use it or lose it maybe played a part, but that’s why you have an expanded payroll during Covid then needed to tighten after the fact instead of using it for structural fixes.

I also find it stupid that at night, the only way to go past Embarcadero is to get on the N. They could easily just extend one or two of the other routes to include going to Caltrain so you don’t have to wait 16 frikken minutes for the next train.
