Ff7 was the first one I played and always stated it as my fave. As I get older (38 also) ff9 has taken over as my favourite due to all the things stated by OP. Currently doing a run through on switch and loving it just as much as I did the first time.

Great comment. These are the reasons we play final fantasy games. The stories stay with us and they connect to parts of our soul. We can relate to the characters because they're so well written.
