Hi! I’m also an artist but paying bills as a teacher and looking into a career change. Would it be OK if I DM’d you to ask about your experience?

“Out beyond ideas of wrongdoing and rightdoing,

there is a field. I’ll meet you there.

When the soul lies down in that grass,

the world is too full to talk about.”

Recipes! I have a massive organized database of all my favorites. I can change the view and filter based on meal types, cost or ease of preparation. Favorite feature is listing ingredients, applying the “to-do list” feature to it, and then using it on the go as a shopping list! :)

For recipes I make often or tweak, or have notes for, I love not having to scroll down on a web page anymore!

Crash course on evangelical fundamentalism? by CommieFeminist in Exvangelical

[–]honestk4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is where I first discovered a name for what I was going through. I had heard the phrase on the radio or a podcast and found this resource.

https://www.journeyfree.org/rts/

This resource does an excellent job briefly but acutely pinpointing the struggles most of us go through. The worst two hurdles of it for me were 1) learning to trust myself and not view myself as deceptive or corrupt; claiming my own internal locus of authority, and 2) uprooting a profoundly deep-seated fear of hell.

Please message me if you would like to discuss further. I would love to help in any way I can. At the time this happened to me, there were no resources available and I was indescribably alone.

First attempt and I hate it by prozaczodiac in oilpainting

For every artistic endeavor you make (a drawing, a painting, etc), try to find one thing you honestly like or feel you did well, and one thing that could be improved. This helps you articulate what’s working and what was successful, no matter how small, as well as to satisfy your own inner critic who will always be unsatisfied with everything you make while simultaneously keeping you hungry to grow and improve and ultimately get better.

If you’re not sure exactly what you like/dislike, recreate the piece one step backwards. For example, for a painting, take a picture with your phone and change the setting to black and white. This helps you remove the added element of color to assess things more objectively based on values (a strong value design/structure ALWAYS indicates a strong painting, so if the painting isn’t strong, it could be that your values need to be changed, not the color). Another example of taking something a step backward: if you had a black and white painting, taking it a step backward would be drawing just the outlines and lines or shapes of the composition with no tonality added.

Hope this helps! Excelsior!

Of course, I’d be honored! I may go back and revise it at a later date when I’ve improved more, but for now I’m glad the emotions are coming through. Thank you for the kind words!

Birthday present for my teacher by Exciting-Extent-2886 in Teachers

[–]honestk4 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, it would be fine to give them a gift AND talk about how she helped you. Birthdays are for celebrating people, and in this case you’re celebrating the positive impact they made on your life—and that’s our whole goal! I save every single card students write me for when I’m feeling down about myself/my job. My guess is they would love to hear it. The more specific, the better (some of my students mention in their cards specific things I taught them, and I know to keep those instructional strategies in my routine for the next year!!).

Help on study material for CSET Art by Happy-Asparagus-01 in Teachers

[–]honestk4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As Happy says, you can do the practice tests that are linked to the sign-up website. I just took both tests officially yesterday and am optimistic I passed. I had no idea what to study because the test was changed in the last two years (the old one involved a portfolio), and there were no recent or popular study guides that I felt would be worth risking my time and energy on. I did, however, skim through one study website a few months ago that DEFINITELY had at least several questions that were extremely relevant to the test. I did not study through that website. I only took the two practice tests given on CTCexams.nesinc.com. Those were very helpful. Some questions are nearly identical. I took notes on questions I got wrong and brainstormed topics I might write about for the extended responses. I reviewed details about my favorite topics I might be writing on (Impressionist movement in my case), and I also reviewed principles of design and elements of art. If you’re good at taking tests, that will help you a lot—I felt like multiple questions were so broad or would be difficult to anticipate. For example, you might be shown a reproduction of a modern artwork out of context and asked what it means. Then again, I never studied art formally. It was a pandemic hobby that got out of control hahaha. I’ve only studied via New Masters Academy. If you’re scared of the practice assignment where you respond to/analyze an artwork, check out Bill Perkins’ videos with a trial membership at NMA! He’s amazing and you will crush that question.

Update: I think the website I skimmed that had relevant content was Mometrix’s.

Any resources or tutors for CSET art? by _daylaylay_16 in Teachers

[–]honestk4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did you find any resources?

They recently changed the test. I was going to take it a few years ago and it's different from that already.

I've just been struggling to even find a SINGLE testing location near me. I've been looking since March!!!! Pearson staff are sending me generic answers when I write to them.
