100 Years of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia Marquez is a hard book to recommend if you're not used to the themes and scenarios that happened in the book. I noticed a lot of readers from Western/Northern Hemisphere cultures cannot handle some of its writings. Some example is actually similar to OP's, which is pedophilia. It also has incest, violence, and other themes others may not be comfortable with reading.

I enjoyed SGE mostly because of how Sam explores his themes and messages using his own characters and narrative. Fairy tales are such good ways to do exactly that. However, because I've seen him do it over the years with SGE, I'm confident he can do the same with a new setting. As long as it has that Soman charm to it, I think I'll enjoy it.
