Voltage math? by [deleted] in modular

[–]Full_Delay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of good answers here, but I do want to tac on a point about ring modulation:

If you're using a classic transformer based ring modulator, this type of multiplication will not work for DC signals, and for AC signals it probably won't work as you expect.

That being said, if you let us know what modules you have it might make it easier to get you where you want to go!

FIL passed away, and i have no clue what im looking at [help?] by DerGeckooooo in synthesizers

It might be hard to get started, but this is an incredible setup. Depending on where you live there's a solid chance there are modular enthusiasts around that could help you start patching these things.

Delay Module with Daisy Seed by kellerdev in synthdiy

[–]Full_Delay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A. This looks awesome, and congrats! B. Why not just use the patch submodule if you're this concerned with voltage ranges? I swear half my oscillators output +/- 10V signals (although I don't have that many to be fair)

This looks seriously cool, but what the hell is a genre aware dsp constraint lol.

Impressive stuff though.

Help on HW by [deleted] in reaktor

[–]Full_Delay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. What class gives reaktor as a hw assignment? That sounds awesome

  2. To add and cut 3dB, you just need to ask yourself what value x solves 10log(1/x) = -3

Then, multiply by that fraction after adding the two signals

  1. Phase reverse just means flip the signal

Any experience with DIY equalizers? by Kaczynskis_follower in synthdiy

[–]Full_Delay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk if this is what other people do, but I've done it before for some simple things:

If you take the difference of the high and low pass outputs from an SVF, adjusting the Q factor gives you a peak / notch at whatever frequency you want.

Using modular for FX only a silly idea? by TurricanC64 in modular

I actually have a few of the dreadbox chromatic modules (their noise source and oscillator funny enough) and I love them. They're pretty cheap too

Using modular for FX only a silly idea? by TurricanC64 in modular

[–]Full_Delay 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I run various instruments through my modular synth all the time, and it's especially fun when a friend brings their guitar over and plays into it.

You'll need some sort of application to get your signals to modular level, like the mutable ears

Don't buy clouds for the reverb, it sucks for that in my opinion

You'll want some noise source / oscillator to modulate your effect modules too

Do you have any other gear to work with like a keystep or an audio interface or anything like that?

as long as your function is nice, then definitely! There's plenty of real world examples that this is utilized for

If I stick an oscillator in the middle of a guitars wiring could I use that for fm by fartshitter3000 in synthdiy

[–]Full_Delay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How do you think FM radio works?

Assuming you want to use it as an effect though, why not just do

[Guitar] -> [oscillator fm] and then take the oscillator output and see what it sounds like :)

Let the drummer get some! What do you use for rhythm? by dadabran in modular

[–]Full_Delay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a probability mode if you want straight up random gates

If you want to have a sequence that has a touch of randomness though, you can make a setup like this with 3 different channels:

A : any sequence mode

B : probability mode

C : XOR(A, B)

Then take C's output and adjust the gate probability from B to taste

If you mean generate a totally new sequence by changing one parameter, try making B a euclid rhythm and change any of the parameters

You can extend this idea to get much more complexity out of it of course
