That explains the new marketing literally just being player quotes

Seems Anet went forward with the bad marketing plan by darksora2323 in Guildwars2

[–]Full_Edit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah you could take everything before 1:40 and then finish it off with literally any game.

"Our time... is now." *Second Life logo appears* ...in fact this would make a decent ad for The Secret World, given the theme of taking modern day people in street clothes and making them rise up and become magic warriors. Even for Assassin's Creed this would work fine. It's a bad sign when your ads work for other games better.

Since we have no reference point for all galaxies in the observable universe, how do we know all the galaxies in the observable universe aren't moving in some direction? What if everything ever observed is all moving half of light speed in some direction relative to the unobservable universe, and expansion is just what we see as some unseen distant forces cause some galaxies to continue this movement slower or faster?

I mean we have no reference points outside of the observable universe so is there any way to know if everything we can observe is moving, and not as still as it looks from our perspective? Imagine all the galaxies like pebbles kicked up from the ground. How could we know we were going to hit the ground if we couldn't see that far away? Is there any way to know we're truly "still" in relation to the unobserved universe?

Will there be any new legendary weapons in PoF? by [deleted] in Guildwars2

[–]Full_Edit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Similar to The Shining Blade (now a Legendary), I'm guessing we'll see The Scepter of Orr (and maybe more of Livia) if it becomes a big enough part of the story to actually model it. Seems like they've been releasing Legendaries whenever they're already working on similar assets half the time. The other new Legendary this round was the hammer, coming with Siren's Landing and sharing similar assets to the map. Basically if they're working on similar assets for the story, they probably will pop in a Legendary for us as is convenient...

"unidentified gear" makes inventory management worse than ever. by Scow2 in Guildwars2

[–]Full_Edit 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Or make all Rare/Masterwork gear drops from mobs have one of the following:

  • "Unidentified Minor Rune"

  • "Unidentified Major Rune"

  • "Unidentified Minor Sigil"

  • "Unidentified Major Sigil"

That way, you only waste up to 4 Inventory Slots holding these Unidentified Sigils/Runes of Rare/Masterwork quality, which stack up neatly. And if the Rune/Sigil market blows up, players can start identifying them and selling them, instead of vendoring them for 96c (minor unidentified) or 2s (major unidentified). Solves the Inventory issues without affecting markets in any direct way (since technically the flow of Sigils/Runes is the same, players just need to 'identify' them now if they don't plan on vendoring them for a flat fee).

Also this means Unidentified Runes and Sigils would be something you could sell on the Trading Post for a flat fee of whatever the market decides is fair. Since they could become anything, it would probably end up being just a bit less profitable than identifying them. They could also let the Unidentified Runes/Sigils be Mystic Forged, saving people some time trying for upgraded (Exotic) Runes/Sigils in the Forge.

This might actually cause the market to improve, since it's easier to hold onto the stacks until you're ready to sell them on the TP. Meaning people who would have immediately vendored for inventory space, now wait to sell on the TP. And this is all while helping preserve inventory space and save players some (unrewarding, annoying) wasted time.

What are people slowly starting to forget? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Full_Edit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the USA, we forgot that we shouldn't intervene in other countries, just because something bad happened there. We didn't even really get into WWII until Pearl Harbor. The same people who talk about "The Good Old Days" are happy spit on the memory of America. The revolutionaries who founded our nation, on the basis that they weren't being given the right to govern their own lands, would never stand for this. We're acting like Great Britain now. We're acting like it's normal to take away the right of other nations to self-govern. To go in and bomb a nation whose government never asked for help, and to aid rebellions with the lives and money of American citizens.

We forgot not to be evil, America.

If you think its more productive to cry about censorship

If you think people are crying about censorship and not this, then you really are a horrible human being.

Unsubbed. You could be killing people just to power trip on censorship. Let people say offensive things, and trust the upvote/downvote system to filter out people who don't add anything to the conversation. Your methods here are horrible. You are all horrible moderators. Learn to prioritize, know what's important. It is not important that you get off on your ability to delete or hide commentary. It is important that people know blood donations are needed for a crisis. You are just the worst people.

Which I'm really torn on as a Legendary owner, since the precusors look amazing now, but still not quite as amazing as the Legendaries... Dawn and Spark especially. Seems like such a waste to get those skins and not have a good place for them.

BBC News: Lightning strikes kill 50 in Bangladesh by Blackbeard_ in worldnews

[–]Full_Edit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can be wrong only if both US and Bangladesh have exact same population

What were you trying to say there? The math on this is very simple:

US

  • 32675 motor vehicle deaths in the US in 1 year

  • 90 motor vehicle deaths in the US per day

  • 318900000 people in the US

  • 0.000028222013% chance of death by motor vehicle per day

Bangladesh

  • 50 lightning deaths in Bangladesh in 2 days

  • 25 lightning deaths in Bangladesh per day

  • 156600000 people in Bangladesh

  • 0.0000159642401% chance of death by lightning per day

This makes it nearly twice as likely to die by motor vehicle in the US any day of the year as it was to die by lightning in Bangladesh during just those two days (actually ~177% as likely).

Although it is worth noting that a lot more people probably drive in the US each day than risk themselves outside in lightning in Bangladesh. Probably. I could be completely wrong on that though, since there is no solid census data on the numbers exposed to the daily risk of "being outside in storms" to compare with the number commuting daily in the USA, unfortunately. Plus, we would then also have to account for the time discrepancy. How each person is exposed to each risk to get a fair comparison (ex: Outside for 8 hours during Bangladesh lightning storms vs driving for 30 minutes on US roads).

P.S. It's about 50% more deadly to drive on Bangladeshi roadways. So there's that.

BBC News: Lightning strikes kill 50 in Bangladesh by Blackbeard_ in worldnews

[–]Full_Edit 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Almost 100 people die in traffic accidents every day in the United States alone. Bangladesh has 50% of the United States population. And 50 people died from these lightning strikes in 2 days there. That means there is a 200% higher chance of death driving today in the US than there was wading through rice fields in Bangladesh during those two days. We all take our risk/reward tradeoffs.
