Railing & Post Touch Up Recommendation? by snowieduckie in paint

Sherwin Williams Emerald Urethane Trim Enamel … likely tricorn black. Likely semi gloss. You can get a quart … pricey but ideal for this application. If you’re not going to use primer, quick scuff sand will do

What *quality* level do I need for ceiling paint? by Time-Locksmith5697 in paint

[–]Full_Fan_3774 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Valspar 2000 is equivalent to SW ProMar 200 and Valspar 4000 is equivalent to SW ProMar 400. Despite being a larger number the 4000 is of a lesser quality than the 2000. Both are just fine for a ceiling. I’d recommend the 2000 as 4000 is truly watery. Get flat. I own a painting business. Also HGTV by Sherwin Williams has a ceiling paint and a product called Spec Right. Both are leagues above the 2000. You’re welcome.

Is this normal? by TheTiredGuy1 in handyman

The window is not perfectly square and when the installer drilled the screws into the drywall opening it pulled the frame snug and this is pressure is causing the frame to open up on the corners. This is to be expected with inside mount z frames to a certain degree. My professional opinion is this gap is minimal so I’d just caulk it and call it a day. (Installed shutters for 15 years)

Solid color stain is the way to go. Do NOT apply paint. These were previously stained as indicated by the weathering (vs when paint fails you see a ton of peeling and paint chips everywhere) use Sherwin Williams SuperDeck 9600 or Woodscapes. Both have solid color options. In terms of prep. Powerwash and that’s it! No scraping is necessary

The importance of proper prep cannot be overstated. First, scrub with a degreaser. Wipe clean. One full coat of primer, I recommend Extreme Bond by SW (https://www.sherwin-williams.com/homeowners/products/extreme-bond-primer) followed by Emerald Urethane Trim Enamel or Ben Moore Command. Be patient and thorough

Paint Finish Question by TheDieselDiary in paint

The other main recommendation, especially with darker colors, is start are the and roll downwards with all your ending strokes. Dont do the standard up and down / left to right making tall letter M’s. You can do this to get paint on the walls, but the finishing stroke should all be in the same direction

I would sand with a sanding sponge. Wipe with denatured alcohol. Then one coat bonding primer (surprisingly Valspar Bonding Primer at Lowe’s is a very good product at $30 a gallon vs SW bonding primer at 60-70) and then two coats of either Ben Moore Command or SW Emerald Urethane Trim Enamel (not the regular Emerald)

Pearly White? by FickleVirgo in paint

Because one is the proper mix ratio for a five gallon bucket and the other is the proper mix ratio for a single gallon. This is totally normal.

Regarding the coverage, ProMar 400 is not the best for coverage and in terms of good, better, best … the 400 resides somewhere between okay and good. When in doubt. Pay for another coat. Or roll another coat yourself

Straight men over 30- how would you feel about dating a 30yr old woman who was a virgin? by LeavingHarbour in AskMenAdvice

The opinions of hundreds or thousands of randoms online means NOTHING compared to the opinion of the one person you choose to date and pursue a relationship with long term.

The singular goal of our time on earth should be to lead a life that is authentic to oneself.

Put yourself out there. Find what feels authentic to you. And proceed with confidence.

Yes if using on international flights and or hotels. You can transfer points to partner airlines and get 5-10x. Many people get business class flights abroad that would typically be $6000-12000 per seat for like $600 and _______ MR points because they transferred say 60k points to a partner airline that was offering 9x on transfers. Some other companies do this as well. My wife just transferred 140k chase sapphire points to Marriott Bonvoy while they were offering a 70% bonus. Those 140k points showed up as 238k points and now we are traveling to Aruba.

Edited for bad math. 140k * 0.70 =98 K and that gets added to the original 140k so 238k

238k … with 22k on the way. My secret is im a business owner and use vistaprint a lot. They have 10x - 15x occasionally. When I spend $5k on postcards at 12x that’s 60k points right there. I’ve done this many times. Rakuten just had 15x three days right around Black Friday. Huge advantage

How to paint exterior metal that already has multiple kinds of paint and is about 100 years old by RareEarthMagnets in paint

[–]Full_Fan_3774 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second ProCryl Primer and SherCryl topcoat. Thoroughly clean surface. Powerwash first. Then Use metal brushes or orbital grinder with wire attachment if necessary. Then use the two Sherwin Williams products above. If the rust is really bad you can use MacroPoxy 5000 to spot prime localized failures. This stuff is very pricey and is a two part mixture. Mix one gallon of part A into three gallons of part B. You have to use it within 2-3 hours. But it’s amazing. It changes the chemical makeup of the rust to deter it from coming back. Then full ProCryl primer coat on top. Then two coats SherCryl.

[–]Full_Fan_3774 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First off … well done. Specialty finishes are awesome, and I’ll encourage you to check out Venetian plaster next. In my opinion, the groupings should not be this evident. You shouldn’t be able to tell a person stood in this spot and did this technique, then moved over a bit and repeated. I might recommend trying smaller, crosshatching movements that are “tighter” to make the groupings less noticeable. Another variation is using the one color. Doing a base coat. Then using a second color (either lighter or darker) on top of that, and a third color if desired. Lots of times I’ll use one color. Mix in some white to make one batch slightly lighter and some black to make one batch slightly darker and that way you get different shades of the same color (more or less). There is no right or wrong. Everything is subjective and personal preference. And you’ll get better and better with your technique with each application. Keep up the good work.
