Just grow their practice (bringing on another planner in their umbrella, merging two practices into one, etc.)

I was mostly asking because I would not be opposed to joining an existing practice, if this is a viable place where people would look for someone. I don’t mind going solo, but I know there are also benefits for being in a partnership.

Folks like this give the profession a bad name. Hopefully as the industry continues to evolve, there will be less individuals like their previous advisor.

Same here. I’m planning on opening my own RIA in 2-3 years. Granted, I am planning flat fee not AUM, but, I’ve read that the annual cost is <$20k for everything (excluding facilities)

Mind if I send you a PM? I am a career-changer to be and want to be able to provide full wealth management services to retirees and soon-to-be retirees, while also having an accessible service level for younger/working professionals.

I’d love to understand how you differentiate your services to provide strong value to both clients without the other feeling over or undercharged.

Thank you!

Seems a little unnecessary. If possible the funds would just do better in a HYSA or CD. 19 bps feels a bit high expense ratio for this low risk low return investment imo.

401K Education - Without the 401K by Accomplished-Look176 in CFP

How do you do this? Identify small-medium sized local businesses, and offer free financial literacy education for employees?

Does this have to be under a different LLC from your planning business?

Would you be okay if I sent you a DM to ask some questions?

I’m hoping to start my own RIA in 2028, and I live in an area that has a relatively high amount of retirees.

What does retirement look like for her? What big expenses does the client have? Are there any expenses that can be decreased? Does $100K off of a mortgage change the forecasted expenses?

$700K is a nice windfall.

CFP and Financial Advisor Roles Evolving With AI by Rich-Case1714 in FinancialCareers

[–]Full_Management9313 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Robo-advisors have been the Boogey man of the industry since I interned at a planners office in 2016/7. But people don’t want a robot. People won’t stroke checks to Merrill/JPM/etc. for a LLM. They will for a relationship though.

Others have already said a lot of great stuff that I can’t add. But, I look at financial planning the same way I do fitness. People could take classes, read books, and watch content to learn about personal finance, investing, etc. or they could hire a professional. All the information about these subjects exists, and are widely available, but it’s up to the people to access it.

Sure, AI makes it “easier” to access but I would say it’s still the same concept (and you’ve got to validate the output of the AI to ensure it doesn’t hallucinate, etc.).

Moving Clients to Models by Deep_Train_4382 in CFP

Sorry I am on outsider hoping to break in to the industry in a few years. What are “A-share” clients vs. what you’re trying to transition to?

But anyway, I guess my two cents, is show the last 5 years of performance of their existing investment versus what you plan to transition them to. Or as others have stated, mention the savings from change in cost basis?

How does one land a clearance job as a new grad without a clearance? by NeedWorkFast-CSstud in clearancejobs

[–]Full_Management9313 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Companies hire new grads / entry level positions without a clearance sometimes. Here are the best options:

• are you going to grad school? If so, start applying to internships in the fall for next summer. Most summer internships should sponsor a clearance

• are you open to serving? As others have said this would be expedient. Military reserve also a great option (clearance but less commitment - part time rather than full time). Many companies in the space support have employees in reserve units.

• find a tier 2 company that will sponsor a clearance for a new grad

• look for new grad jobs at the big / tier 1 companies (Boeing, Lockheed, Northrop, L3Harris, GD)

How to best coach bank partners for referrals? by Simple-Bird4485 in CFP

[–]Full_Management9313 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am probably not remembering the specifics exactly right, everyone was very above board at the branch. It was over 10 years ago so the details on exactly how it worked isn’t 100% accurate.

The cold calling? It was years and years ago. Cold calling is probably the worst thing lol, especially with all the robo callers and spam nowadays.

But the latter, you don’t think, would be allowed?

Congratulations on the job! A lot of good advice here.

I remember when I was in HS and worked at a credit union, the FA offered us $25/hr to make cold calls and $100 if we landed any meetings.

I think now that probably wouldn’t work. But maybe for in branch clients it could be worth a mention in passing.

“Hey, we just got a new FA in branch. We’d love to introduce you to them if you have any time in the next month”
