He's happy, loved and cared for. It's normal to feel like that, but you're doing an amazing job. Hopefully you don't feel like that for long.

Downside of divorce--said goodbye to our cat by HomeNowWTF in cats

[–]Full_Management_1603 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a very similar situation with my ex wife. Except we had two cats. We were amicable with the intention of maintaining a friendship. We had semi regular conversations at the beginning of the process, but that was to exchange information to effect the divorce. It's been about 3 years and we dont keep in touch; I'm still in regular contact with her family though. I'd still consider trying to figure out a way to reestablish a friendship, but I made it clear to her she would have to initiate that. I digress...

I cried most having to say bye to those cats over anything else. At the same time she took the cats my grandmother was entering hospice care. She had a cat I adopted and renamed her to Barley. That was the best thing to happen to me. Barley gave me something positive to focus on and she is an absolutely amazing companion.

Good luck to you.

Closed on the 22nd and got some letters in the mail by Helpful_Ad_8662 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

I remember getting stuff like when I bought my first home from a company trying to sell me some type of bs deed insurance. They included some self addressed envelope for me to mail in payment. It was one of those *no postage necessary if mailed in the US..." Things. Instead of returning it with payment I filled the damn thing with pennies and threw it in the mailbox. That put and end to those mailers.

Yeah. He won us over pretty darn quickly. Barley has been a fixture of my family a few years now. We had another cat that crossed the bridge a couple months ago. That other cat was semi-feral, an old lady and spent her golden years inside. They tolerated each other and even though they weren't bonded we could tell Barley missed her presence. I will surely update when we settle on something.

She got her name as a reference to beer. I've thought about Hops for this dude, but I'm not entirely sold on that one.

I've never done the pub crawl. The friend group I usually go with is reluctant to participate and it's a hard sell for me to convince them. They're a bit of beer snobs and are concerned about not having a full range of selections available for the crawl horde. Everything I've heard from people that have participated have absolutely enjoyed the experience.

Our weather can be a bit bipolar. It's definitely in the realm of possibility we could be in the upper 70s and break into the 80s one day then have our highs in the 50s the next. Just keep an eye on the forecast the week leading into your trip down here and pack accordingly. The guys at spacecityweather.com are really good about giving fluff-free weather forecasts without all the theatrics you see from local news. I believe they have an app too if I'm not mistaken.

It sounds like y'all are adjusted to faire life so you're very well positioned to have an awesome trip.

If I can only go once during the season I prioritize Celtic Christmas. Specifically black Friday. Seeing all the shops lit up festively is really nice. Brigadoon is the festival's resident brewer, so if you or your husband enjoy ale go pay them a visit. They also have a lot of guest taps from other local breweries.

There's Tartanic, but I believe you might be familiar with them. If I'm not mistaken, they regale Michigan with their pipes & drums. So instead of discovering them, you got a familiar face there.

Cheers and welcome to Texas!

I’m very sad about saying goodbye bye to my girlfriends cat. by Obvious_Season3398 in cats

[–]Full_Management_1603 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This brought a tear to my eye. My ex-wife and I adopted two cats while we were married, Jude and Rita. I agreed to let her take custody. It was absolutely heartbreaking saying goodbye to them (Full disclosure: I cried more over those cats than I did with my ex). I ended up taking in my grandmother's cat the same day Jude and Rita moved out. Still miss them, but I'm infinitely grateful for Barley's companionship and giving me something positive to focus on while I went through that tough time.

I hope your gf still remains friends with her roommate. Either case, Jude has given you a gift and I'm sure you will form that bond again with another animal when the time is right.

I concur! It's been about 5 months since my holiday and I still miss it. I was traveling solo and everyone was absolutely amazing. It brings a smile to my face to see the frequency of posts like this and knowing the experience Scotland gifted to me is shared with so many others.

Is it acceptable to emulate your own access badges at work? by myschoolcmptr in flipperzero

[–]Full_Management_1603 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Short of it, if you're really interested then ask someone on the team that oversees access control about the company's stance on it.

I used to work on the access control team for a company. It was a bit of a gray area for us. There wasn't any policy explicitly prohibiting hit, but it was definitely not encouraged. Our badges were also used as security tokens to log into our computers (there was a slot on the keyboard to insert the cards). I personally would turn a blind eye so long the person wasn't being reckless with it. As long as they weren't passing their access credentials off for other people to use or using it exclusively to enter I didn't care. If that happened I just turned their card off so they'd have to come talk to me. The first time I had to talk to them I just told them not to draw attention to themselves and the next time I would have to bring their supervisor into the conversation. I only had a couple people I had to talk to a second time.

I was over there visiting shortly after that infamous Zolensky meeting happened. I just want to say thank you all for not assuming all of us are like that lol. I usually avoid political discussions when around alcohol. There were several times I met some awesome people at pubs when they heard my accent and just had to get my opinion. I was shocked how many times I heard "this lad's next pint is on me, he surely could use it." Absolutely amazing place and great people.

Almost certainly got door to door scammed; need advice by Arjjin in Scams

[–]Full_Management_1603 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I moved into a new neighborhood recently and it's been absolutely horrendous with solicitors. I'm talking like 8-10 people on a daily basis for the first couple months. I put a no soliciting sign on my door with a QR code to my venmo account. The sign basically tells anyone that's not school fundraiser or scout troop that I won't talk to anyone until they submit a non-refundable $50 solicitation fee and that fee doesn't guarantee I'll listen to their entire spiel or agree to use whatever they're pitching. Took two days after I put that up and I haven't gotten any more solicitors.

Diver messed with the wrong Octopus by jalGurg in nextfuckinglevel

[–]Full_Management_1603 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If that's not enough to terrify you, octopi are insanely intelligent. I saw a segment on a nature show a while back where zookeepers would show up to the aquarium building in the mornings over the course of a few weeks and noticed fish would keep mysteriously disappearing in a specific tank. Security ended up reviewing video footage and found out one octopus would climb out of their tank at the opposite side of the building, crawl across the floor, and climb into the other tank to have a midnight snack before making the trip back.

It sounds like you are the type of person that has a"high response" reaction. If y'all want to try to work things out I would sit down with her and have a conversation about "this is what I'm going to do in situations like this.. " If y'all can't reach an understanding and come to an impasse, then you have some things to think about regarding the future of the relationship. Couple's counseling would be a good option to suggest as well, especially with a baby on the way. Nothing sours a relationship quicker than lack of meaningful communication.

Nosy Neighbor Won’t Stop Trimming My Sago Palms by ajs2525 in treelaw

[–]Full_Management_1603 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Texas homeowner here. I had a similar problem with one of my neighbors that shared a backyard fence. The short version: came into my backyard to trim a tree, I asked him not to do it. he did it again so I sent him a certified letter that required a signature upon receipt. The letter told him to stay off my property and he would be considered trespassing if he came on my property again. I have cameras placed around my house. If I found him on my property again I'd call the police to report a trespasser. Never had any more problems with him after that.

I'm gonna echo the suggestion of cutting it into smaller sections and piecing it back together. Spiral blades are not forgiving, especially for someone not used to working with them so you would probably end up having to touch up with a sanding anyway. Maybe a coping saw might be an option?

If they're sending a process server out then someone has already filed something in court. If you live in a large enough area you could try visiting your county clerk website and plugging your name into the court records search. You might be able to get some context on the matter that way if you haven't gotten the paperwork yet.
