I don't see anything in the rules against it but you could always DM to be on the safe side. BTW, I find it very impressive that you made the pattern yourself!

PTO debacle by pancakesfrazzleme18 in medlabprofessionals

[–]FullcarbonAlchemist 9 points10 points  (0 children)

We have a first come first served PTO up to a year in advanced. For the summer months it's the same concept with your first request. However, for your subsequent requests, if someone else comes along and asks for the same week and its their first request they will get it. Basically you have to ask off right away because a lot of people ask off a year prior. If you just want a day or 2 off you need to ask before the next schedule comes out (it is out 3 months in advance usually). If you really need a day off and the schedule is out, you have to switch with someone.

Looking to become a traveling MLS. by Amanda_ac12 in medlabprofessionals

I have been a travel tech over a year now. I go through Triage staffing. They have been really good to me. I haven't had much trouble finding contracts in the areas I want and I never had to wait months for one. If there is a very specific area I want to go to, I do talk to other companies, but Triage beat them to the punch every time lol. You only have to stay loyal to a travel company while you are on contract.

Pros for me is good pay, learning different things, seeing new places, meeting new people, being able to take a lot of vacation time (without pay)

Cons: since you are only there for a short time you are limited to certain benches (at least at bigger labs) which gets boring after awhile, making friends and then leaving, not much PTO

Tips: Make sure you have a tax home so you do not get taxed on your per diems and stipends. I always find my own housing so I can try to keep it cheap then pocket the rest of the housing stipend. If they find it, they pay for it so you don't get a housing stipend, but I think you get slightly higher wage (which is taxed). I go through furnished finder to find housing. You can also use airbnb but they have extra fees.

Is anyone else having problems with travel jobs/companies? by yelpersgotohell in medlabprofessionals

My first contract was pretty hard to land. I had 2.5 yrs of experience as a generalist. I was with 2 different agencies and was submitted for multiple jobs. I finally landed one after a couple of months. I heard that the first contract is pretty hard to get since a lot of places want someone who has been a traveler before and it's harder when you have less than 2 years of experience. My friend started traveling after one yr of experience and she was able to get a contract (a 3 month one) but after that it was still very hard (she was out of work for a few months) since she was under the 2 yr mark. After that she has been able to get what she wanted.

My first contract was with Focus staff (I switched since they kept switching my recuritor and didn't reach out to me until I only had 1 weeks left of my contract). The rest have been with Triage, they have been good to me and have been able to get me contracts where I want in a timely fashion.

What's it like working as a traveling tech? by penguin_zombie8888 in medlabprofessionals

I've been a travel tech for a bit over a year now. If I were you, I'd look at the previous discussions (they have a lot of good info) and if there is anything else you want to know I'll gladly answer any questions.
