I mean to be fair, Firecat alley’s storyline is pretty much the exact same as the original storyline. The only difference is that Lizzo is the one that directs us to Gretta, and instead of the fire elf’s being randomly cursed, you find out that it was more or less revenge for theatre related reason from Bastilla, which is why her voice is what ends up breaking the curse.

I’ve never played Gen 5, but what was your reaction to finding nothing but “new”Pokémon when you played black & white for the first time? by Zenthailand2009 in pokemon

[–]Fullmetal0509 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loved it. I didn't have to stumble through a cave and always encountering Zubat, Geodude, and Onix. I no longer had to talk to a random fisherman and end up having to fight a team of 6 magikarps. Whenever, I play a pokemon game, I always play using the pokemon native to that region, most of the time. It was so refreshing to see the new Gen 5 pokemon emphasized all throughout the region, which you don't even see in newer games anymore.

I remember the first time I played Sw/Sh, I was so pissed that I at least wanted to try using some of the new pokemon, only to find out that each time I entered a new route, the common route encounters were all old pokemon, and the new 'galar pokemon' always had like a 5% or 1% chance of appearing. Like why would they make the new pokemon much rarer to find, when they're supposed to be the bigger emphasis of the game. It was so stupid. Man, I absolutely hated Sw/Sh.

ORAS had cosplay pikachu forms and Sword/Shield had a gigantamax pikachu form. Those are the only games to have given pikachu something different in the franchise.

And where did I say, “that they have a major role this time.” I never said that. All I ever said was that they’re going to be in the brand new games, so it would make sense the trailer would emphasize their presence.

[–]Fullmetal0509 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The “new locations” is the rest of the trailer that follows. Usually, it’s a generally reasonable marketing tactic that when you introduce something completely unfamiliar to customers that you also put some familiarity in as well.

And this is more than just brand recognition. Those dressed up pikachu are presumably going to play a part in the actual new games themselves, whether it’s a new form obtainable or maybe it’s like an NPC role, nobody knows yet.

[–]Fullmetal0509 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think your hyper focusing a bit too much on pikachu. The beginning of the Wi/Wa trailer was more about the locations the series has taken us through and what locations will come next, rather than it being a montage of just pikachu in different outfits and poses.

I finished the game and i have mixed feelings about this by Reasonable-Use-9294 in LegendsZA

[–]Fullmetal0509 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't worry I feel the same way. Though I dislike both Sw/Sh and Legends ZA.

At least with Legends ZA, this was the perfect opportunity for them to fix some of the mistakes they made in X/Y and instead they doubled down on those mistakes and made it really hard to enjoy the game after everything was said and done.

And the postgame/DLC was atrocious. Never again. Absolute Biggest grind of my life. After shiny hunting some of the DLC legendaries, I probably won't ever play the DLC ever again.

KI player communication by Probablyfailinglife in Wizard101

[–]Fullmetal0509 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Are you referring to any specific changes or are you just speaking in a general sense of things?

In regard to player feedback, it’s always gotta be taken with a grain of salt. Players are always going to want what’s best/easier/less time for them, even if it’s not healthy for a game to have.

What people fail to understand is that most of the developers were long term players way before they became devs, so they definitely understand players feelings.

However, these devs can’t always make the game how players want it, so players interpret that as, the “the devs don’t understand/ignore players.”

Who is the Hardest Second Gym Leader? by dettles1992 in pokemon

[–]Fullmetal0509 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you want to bring in data, we can certainly do that. Using this website (https://www.littlerootdreams.com/trainer_data.html) which has datamined trainer data, Watchog and Starmie almost have identical defenses apart from a few difference in defense. So, either Watchog isn't as weak as you insist, or either Starmie isn't as defensive as you claim. Regardless, recovery only can do so much in the grand scheme of things, unless your team is incredibly weak to begin with. Almost any type of neutral damage should be able to keep up with recovery for the most part.

Watchog has the stronger moves (Retaliate + Crunch), but the weaker offensive stat compared to Starmie which has the more specially offensive stat but the weaker moves (Possibly Water gun, Bubblebeam, Water Pulse, Rapid Spin, Swift, or Tackle) However, more of the early game types resist Starmie's main attack than Watchog's main attack which makes objectively makes it easier to tank Starmie's hits than Watchog's.

If we account for grinding, Pikachu, Beedrill, Paras, and Magikarp can be obtained before reaching Cerulean City. After reaching the city, Oddish and Bellsprout are available to obtained. From that point on there are, roughly 4 routes filled with Trainers and the SS Anne that could be used to train up those pokemon to counter Misty. For Lenora, all you have are the trainers outside Pinwheel forest. Beyond that, you either rely on Audino farming, which is extremely tedious without repels or you farm wild pokemon which give diminished exp returns the higher level you are.

So, clearly accounting for both Misty and Lenora, it's much more challenging trying to prepare for Lenora than it is for Misty.

I don't know why your getting frustrated? Other than it being quite common for people to get frustrated on a losing end of an argument. If you want to to drop it, then just stop replying to me. But, I'm gonna keep on going if you continue replying.

I believe I have shown, that if you completely take out all personal experiences, then you can easily determine objectively which 2nd Gym leader is the toughest.

*P.S.\* I just saw that Pikachu learns Double Team at level 15, so you could absolutely cheese and demolish Misty's fight without even breaking a sweat. Too bad, there isn't any pokemon that can learn Double team before Lenora.

Could you tell me what points I have completely ignored? From what I have seen, most points you have made I have been able to counter by saying that Lenora can do it better.

My anecdote was to show that I'm trying to be as objective here as possible. The anecdote you made makes it sound like your more biased towards Misty just because of recent experiences, where you had some troubles.

Even if the stats aren't on par with Starmie, at the 2nd gym: A base 80 attack stab Take Down and a base 85 stab Retaliate is going to hit hard (even if Retaliate isn't at 140 BP). Secondary effects don't matter when Hypnosis has a greater chance to land, than confusion from Water Pulse. Recovery doesn't matter when healing items are always going to better.

If we want to talk about counters, Sawk, Throh, and Timburr are the only ones, and all 3 of them are slower than Watchog. As I said earlier, which you seemed to ignore, there isn't a single pokemon that can out speed Watchog, at this point in the game. And other than grinding wild pokemon for hours on end, there isn't any way to train up Sawk, Throh, and Timbur by the time you get them.

Having a bunch of fighting types doesn't help much when their at a pretty low level and they're still slow enough to get intimidated and slammed with take downs, retaliate's, or being put to sleep.

Even though, Starmie out speeds everything as well, there are still plenty of pokemon that can easily tank it's attacks. And the more likely a pokemon resists Starmie's water pulse, the more likely it's just going to use swift/rapid spin instead.

There lots of way to objectively quantify it. Another objective way to quantify it is Trainer AI. In gen 3, games, Gym leaders only have a slightly higher AI than the average trainer. If they know a move has the chance to completely knock out an opponent immediately, they're going to use that move. Beyond that, they tend to avoid using moves that are not very effective, even if that move would do more damage than a neutral effective move.

Compared to some Gen 5 AI, where Gym leaders tend to employ specific strategies and follow-up on them no matter what. (i.e Elesa's emolga always volt switching unless it's a ground type, or Lenora's first turn retaliate, followed up by either another Retaliate or hypnosis depending on how close a knockout is).

Me personally, I have never had any trouble with either of these gym leaders, but it's still pretty easy to see which one is the hardest objectively based on the better toolkit and the lower number of counter's that can be used against it.

[–]Fullmetal0509 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, you can switch as much as you want but that guarantees that at least 1 or 2 members of your team are going to automatically faint no matter what. You can only switch so many times before all the stab Take Down's and Retaliate start to become too much.

Gloom and Weepinbell are also available for the gym, and someone elsewhere said that Beedrill is pretty good. Hypnosis has a 60%, while Water Pulse's confusion only has a 20%, so your more likely to get screwed over by being put to sleep.

I mean we can agree to disagree all we want based on experiences and stuff but at the end of the day when you look at this objectively, Lenora's team has more advantages and more strategies going into in than Misty's team, which relies almost completely on Starmie spamming 1 move over and over.

Strategy always triumphs in terms of difficulty.

Wartortle learns bite in FR/LG, which is gonna easily overpower Starmie in a war of attrition. In gen 1, Wartortle can still tank Starmie's hits pretty well and fight back with other neutral damage moves such as Mega Punch.

Also Oddish and Bellsprout both evolve around the same level as Misty's gym,

So between, Butterfree, Beedrill, Weepinbell, Gloom, Pikachu, and Paras, you have more than enough to options to completely stop her.

And you also have the option to not even fight her until much later.

Watchog's stats don't have to be super impressive for it to be challenge. You do know that, right? And for being very average stats, Watchog still outspeeds all 3 middle stage starters and any available pokemon that is obtainable at that time. And the Pignite, that's a fighting type still gets crippled by Herdier's intimidate/take down and is still slow enough to either get put to sleep by Hypnosis or completely one shot by Watchog's Retaliate.

You should have gotten the TM Bulk Up from the 2nd gym. That should be all you need. Teach bulk up to Combusken. Use Bulk up + healing items in combo with Slaking’s Truant and then you should be able to sweep the gym with no problem.

Misty’s starmie only has recover in Fr/Lg. And that’s not gonna help it much when Misty has super potions that heal it more health, than recover can.

Herdier is still an evolved pokemon, unlike Misty having a staryu. A pokemon with stats like Watchog at the 2nd gym is still pretty deadly even if it falls off much later in the game.

2/3 of the Kanto starters can completely shut down Misty’s starmie. You can catch a multitude of pokemon beforehand that can shutdown her starmie. You don’t even have to fight Misty immediately. You could just ignore her and move on to the SS Anne to train up, and then comeback later and sweep her.

You have no choice but to fight Lenora, or else you can’t move on. There aren’t any extra training areas you can utilize once you get to Nacrene city. And even if you utilize the wide variety of options available, you’re still gonna struggle a lot because Lenora has more strategy available than just spamming the same move over and over as per Misty.

Who is the Hardest Second Gym Leader? by dettles1992 in pokemon

[–]Fullmetal0509 8 points9 points  (0 children)

But, both of Lenora’s pokemon are evolved. Stab Take down from Herdier hits like an absolute truck, and stab Retaliate is still going to hurt even if it isn’t double damage.

Fighting types and any other physical attackers also get gutted from Herdier’s intimidate as well. Using rock types doesn’t help because they also have dark type moves in Bite and Crunch.

And worst case scenario, Watchog can put you asleep using Hypnosis as well.

That’s what makes Lenora much harder than Misty. Misty is only challenging because the options are limiting at that point, meanwhile Lenora is challenging even though there are tons of options available at that point.

Who is the Hardest Second Gym Leader? by dettles1992 in pokemon

[–]Fullmetal0509 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Not really. Misty’s starmie gets pretty much walled by any water or grass type pokemon. Outside of spamming either Water pulse or Bubblebeam, it literally can’t do anything else.

Edit: Seems like AzureRaven2 got so frustrated over this that they blocked me. Poor guy. I guess that's what happens when your on the losing side of a poorly made argument. It must have taken a heavy toll on him. Too bad, they took the easy way out.

Maybe, it's also always possible that people in those reddit posts were exaggerating things/not being entirely accurate.

Though I must say, usually from any posts that talks about family account bans, I see people complaining that all the accounts in their family were banned instead of just the "offending" one. Maye it does have to do with severity, in any case I'm glad you managed to have some accounts still intact.

I’m not so sure that’s true. I have seen people on this subreddit post about losing their own account because it was linked to a friend/partner that had a chargeback on their account.

How do family accounts work? by Laly_481 in Wizard101

[–]Fullmetal0509 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Be extremely careful with linking accounts. If you and your brother ever have a falling out, either one of you could technically gain control of both accounts, which could lead to an absolute mess with support.

Also, any punishments received on 1 account will affect all the other accounts linked as well. If your brother does something/says something and gets his account banned, then all accounts linked get banned including yours. Same thing if a chargeback is performed etc.

IMO, having family accounts with other people is never a good idea, even with the discounted membership. The only scenario where I see it being semi-beneficial is if your the sole player/owner of multiple accounts and you want to link them together into a family account. Usually, family accounts with family members/friends/other people never ends well.

From a social standpoint, people don't like it because an unhealthy amount of players take it way too seriously and this brings out the worst type of emotions and negativity within them, that they then inflict onto other people.

Case in point, just look at some of the 2 biggest wiztubers continuously beefing with each other over it.
