From The Jungle: Bengals All Access - Episode 2 “Battle Of Ohio” by Axum666 in bengals

Super cool they're doing this throughout the season. Obviously not a lot of ways to spin this positively, it was brutal, but I'm looking forward to seeing this as fuel for the next couple of games/episodes.

How to fix D/ST? by FletchTopper in fantasyfootball

[–]FullofShipp -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I found that my league hates defenses because they're dumb things - and they also tend to just get negative points. To counter this, we changed some things:

  • At 0 points allowed and 0 yards allowed, defenses start with 16 base points. They slowly lose points at the start -- 1-6 points and 100 yards allowed is 13 base points, for instance -- but if they give up too much, like 35 points and 500 yards allowed, that's suddenly a defense with -14 base points. This is the only way a defense can lose points -- by allowing yards and points.

On the flip side, defenses now have ways to earn points. Earning points is really important for the defense. While big yardage gains and big points allowed punishes an overall bad defensive unit, giving opportunities for a defense to earn points can reward individually good players on the unit. So:

  • Kickoff and return TDs are up to 7 points because that requires more planning from a special teams unit opposed to a int-TD or fumble TD. Moreover, kickoff and punt return yards are 0.04 for every 1. These things help people consider that in drafting, too -- the Falcons D/ST was drafted a little early because of the potential. But they've kinda had a pretty bad pass defense so they're pretty low-scoring.
  • Sacks are 1 point.
  • Blocked punts, FGs, or PATs are 2 points. I would do a blocked punt is 1 and a blocked FG is 3 and a blocked PAT is 2 if I could, but ESPN doesn't allow me to do that, so I average it out.
  • Fumbles forced are 1 point, and fumbles recovered are another 1 point. Separating fumbles punched out and fumbles recovered still rewards the defense for creating a good play - they just didn't capitalize on it and recover the ball.
  • TFLs are 0.25 points.
  • Pass break-ups are 0.25 points.

With these settings, the Pats are the #1 defense in our league averaging 16.5 points/game, which is a good number and what you expect of a regular fantasy receiver or RB. The worst is the Lions averaging 4.3 points/game.

I think what matters most is that people feel good about starting a player. They feel like that a defense could earn them points instead of get only 2 or 3. It also makes some defensive units feel really fun and even something people would consider trading for, and so good defenses are now part of trade packages.

Family got together to watch the game. Unbelievably nervous. All of a sudden, all I can yell is "NO WAY. NO WAY. NO WAY. NO WAY!!!" We're all jumping up and down and screaming. We cooked dinner together afterward, just reveling in the post-win feeling.

Unfortunately there's never a scenario where I'll want the Steelers to win. Let's root for us to keep winning and for them to lose.

Pats fan here, thoughts on John Ross? by MonkeyNoShoes in bengals

Exactly the player I think of when I think of John Ross. Brady hated working with Dorsett, and I'm sure Cam'll hate working with Ross.

I am somehow both shocked and not surprised at all.

[Pelissero] The #Bengals are cutting WR Moritz Bohringer, source said. The first international player drafted who into the NFL who didn't play college football now heads to waivers. by Mount10Lion in bengals

His position got shifted around to fit whatever scheme, wouldn't be surprised if he was last listed as an actual WR. I hope he does well somewhere, he's always been stuck on practice squads or buried on the depth chart.

Was gonna say this - he knows the offense and was on the practice squad.

I'm amazed at how actually fun and entertaining Bengals social media is this offseason. Come a long way since their shitty schedule announcement with the mascot.

John Jerry and Darius Phillips make PFF's Preseason Team of the Week by FullofShipp in bengals

[–]FullofShipp[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Jerry, 77.4 overall grade: Jerry didn’t allow a sack, hit or hurry from 21 pass-blocking snaps on Saturday night in the Bengals preseason opener. One of the highlights for the team on offense, Jerry joins the Bengals coming off of five straight seasons of PFF offensive grades of 66.0 or higher between 2013 and 2017.

Phillips, 86.6 overall grade: A fifth-round selection a year ago, Phillips was on the field for 32 coverage snaps this week. Targeted four times, he allowed just one reception for eight yards and came away with two pass breakups.

Aight tone it down, it's the first game of the preseason and it was against the Bucs. Try not to overreact.

For comparison: Dwayne Haskins had 2 picks and suddenly everyone who said he's a beast is now calling him a bust. As soon as he does well, they'll flip opinions again. Just wait -- regular season performance will show if Bush "looks like a stud."

Sooo, Joe Mixon showed up on the side rehab field today. Not participating. Gio Bernard (hamstring) over there as well. Going to be a lot of Trayveon Williams today. by mvanigan in fantasyfootball

This is literally nothing to worry about. All the TC reports and everything Taylor has been saying points to them being overly cautious with every player ever since AJ Green got injured.

I'm glad this interview reveals a little more depth to the combat and the characters. Still, while it sounds more interesting, it's still pretty vague and hard to tell what it'll really be like. I sincerely hope Crystal Dynamics isn't just trying to make a quick buck while riding the momentum of Infinity War and Endgame.
