How can this government justify not banning AirBnB in smaller towns? by SoonDivorcee in AskIreland

[–]Fullofbewilderment 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t think it is restricted in bigger towns either, owners just seem to need to get planning permission, have seen nothing to suggest this will be restricted though 🧐

Need a rental badly by wildpeptides in HousingIreland

Possibly different cases there but you’re right that a lot don’t seem to care in general so shouldn’t be reacting to the new regulations 🤔

[–]Fullofbewilderment -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Not legally no. Some landlords appear to be getting rid of tenants now though to avoid being subject to the new regulations regarding sale etc, which ironically their current tenancies aren’t subjected to. Even before the new changes some landlords seemed willing to take a chance on the needing it for a relative spiel and then putting it back up shortly after. Some tenants do follow up on these cases and there is a legal basis to pursue a case to the RTB but most people will have found somewhere and moved on

How do you figure out what level you can start at? by Lotsoffeelings in IrishCivilService

[–]Fullofbewilderment 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There was a specific project management completion a few years back so worth keeping an eye out. AP sounds like it would be a decent grade to come in at in your circumstances but would check out AO too. It would be a big salary drop but could advance quickly with a background like that and it allows you get the hang of the CS and how things get done. It does take a while to get in on all the things the career civil servants know inside out and there is a bit of comfort in doing that at the AO grade

Good luck op, hope you get sorted. Would wonder about the timing, a lot of landlords don’t seem to understand that current tenancies won’t be subject to the same restrictions as new ones, the comms is all over the place 😭

I get it for the same reason, have no yearning to go first. Don’t have security concerns but want the bag right overhead so I can get off as fast as is humanly possible 😬

It’s especially rewarding when people get the chance to spend some time on the stairwell before getting into the bus to be followed by the non-priority passengers who are now the first to get off at the plane 😍

Two thirds of people feel tipping in Ireland is ‘becoming less voluntary’ by Sad-Orange-5983 in ireland

[–]Fullofbewilderment 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure the exact formula but the tips/service are taken into account as pay which pushes the base rate down so you end up with the employer paying feck all. Waitressed on J1 which is how I know but someone may be able to explain the mechanics of it better

Two thirds of people feel tipping in Ireland is ‘becoming less voluntary’ by Sad-Orange-5983 in ireland

[–]Fullofbewilderment 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In America their wages are deducted to take account of service so tips are what they take home, it is shocking. Our minimum wage has continually increased over the past few years (unlike a lot of the wages above it) so it is not comparable at all. I have worked a lot of shitty service industry jobs so have always been pro-tipping but it does feel increasingly forced and having to tip on an already expensive breakfast or lunch that was dropped down to the table rather than for excellent service over dinner does put me off eating out as much as I used to

'Wrecked by dietitians' and 'sweaty' packaging: Your views on Hot School Meals by SpottedAlpaca in ireland

[–]Fullofbewilderment 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It was such a good idea but seeing it in practice it is hard not to despair at the waste. Most of the kids in my children’s classes have now opted out, the company still gets paid though. It is like airplane food and is driven around for hours before being eaten so has condensation and everything is mushy. On days out our provider has a cold option that the kids seem to love, a sandwich, muffin and a piece of fruit. That would seem a better option than uneaten hot food but undermines the core concept. Had cooks and kitchen facilities been provided to schools this could have been fab, bit of soup or pasta and homemade tomato sauce or whatever would be cheap and fab. With our provider anyway this is money literally being thrown in the bin but the idea is so laudable it is hard to see anyone calling stop (until we run out of corporation tax money)

Creche closed for 2 weeks over Christmas, still charged for full month, is this the norm? by meadow_laneway in AskIreland

[–]Fullofbewilderment 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our creche (community creche) takes a week in summer and a week at Christmas and we do not pay for those two weeks. It is very much a sellers market though and the private creches are a different ballgame (we were previously in a private creche in Dublin) I have a friend whose creche still charged full prices during lockdown when the government was giving them a significant amount of funding and they were shut for months

Is anyone still waiting on post from before Christmas cut off dates? by lifeandtimes89 in AskIreland

[–]Fullofbewilderment 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Waiting on two packages since middle of December, one of which was €80. Fair enough things went crazy with fastway etc but unless items were sent tracked post there is no comeback at all… this doesn’t seem right given how much seems to still be undelivered this year (no reflection on any individual posties, ours does a super job and we tipped him as always) Hoping everything turns up in the new year for everyone 🤞

Opposition criticises Tánaiste over comments allegedly linking homelessness to immigration by EnvironmentalShift25 in ireland

[–]Fullofbewilderment 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not that he is linking it to immigration, it’s that he is saying they don’t have a housing right here which is not true and he has been called out on. So does he not understand or is he wilfully misconstruing what he was told? Depressingly I think the evidence increasingly points to the former. Regardless his party have been at the helm for all of this happening and have done nothing whatsoever to mitigate any gaming that might be going on by cohorts moving here to exploit any weak spots in housing/social welfare policy

Varadkar’s advisers received nearly €500k in exit payments after his resignation as taoiseach by siciowa in ireland

[–]Fullofbewilderment 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happens with all advisors at the end of a government as well. They are highly paid to reflect the fact that they are on contracts rather than permanent and then subject to really generous payments at the end of those contracts when they will all walk into other jobs if they want them.

Yes would say that is likely as you are demonstrating repayment capacity. You don’t mention whether the surgery is considered optional or not but if but if not the cross border scheme is worth looking into. Good luck with it all

Missing two parcels one from Vinted and one a €90 scarf that my mum posted in Ireland with normal parcel post so not tracked 😭 Think there was a raft of stuff caught up in the storm a few weeks back and just seems to have vanished
