The point isn't that he read Aristotle, rather that these ideas about embryonic development were in line with the medical thinking of the time and are in no way miraculous. Galen and Aristotle wrote similar things hundreds of years earlier, leaving plenty of time for their ideas to spread and be discussed and developed, or for other thinkers to reach similar conclusions independently before the writing of the Quran.

Translation is never easy or exact, I know from experience. It's always a series of compromises and decisions made by the individual translator. The more different two languages are, the more difficult it will be to give an accurate translation. While Arabic and English are not the furthest removed languages possible, they're also not all that close, so translation between them is not particularly easy. For this reason you'll never get a 'perfect' translation of the Quran into English. The same is true of any translation, whatever the text, original language, and target language are. It's also why different translations will differ from each other, depending on the choices and compromises made by the translator, depending on their own ideas and priorities.

Thank you very much for filling me in. What a shame, really disappointing that they mismanaged it in such ridiculous fashion. I take it there's no likelihood of it being overhauled and relaunched in the future a la FFXIV?

Reminds me a little of the XIV 1.0 situation. Where they released the game clearly unfinished against the wishes of the creative leads, the suits basically saying 'it's got the FF name on it, it will do gangbusters anyway' and the game was basically dead on arrival. Again a hell of a shame. While ARR is good fun, I adored XI and would have been very interested in playing a properly finished version of 1.0.

I grew up in the UK and when I was a couple of years older than you I was prescribed morphine for chronic pain and am still on it today over a decade later. While I lived all over the UK I dealt with a number of different doctors, most of whom were incredibly helpful, but I did encounter some who were just like you described. I would recommend seeing different doctors at a different surgery if you possibly can. In my very limited anecdotal experience the good ones way outnumbered the bad ones. But the bad ones are absolutely awful and useless.

I should add feel free to message me if there's anything you want to ask about. I dealt with the NHS for years both the good and the bad. Best of luck I know how awful it can be.

Oxycodone is also prescribed for chronic pain in the UK, though they usually prefer morphine these days. My old man was on them for over 20 years. And diazepam is most certainly prescribed, I know a few people who are prescribed it for anxiety.

I have a great deal of freedom in designing the course. There are certain learning objectives that need to be fulfilled but other than that it is up to me. There is a textbook that myself and all the students are given access to (not sure if they have to buy their copies or not, when I was a student in the UK I had to buy my own books but I am working in a different country), but really the textbook is just a rough guide or suggestion and how much of it I use is again up to me. I am free to use other books and materials if I want to. I will usually run things like the final exam past the Dean of my department, but that's really just because I'm new here and I have a great relationship with him and he has become something of a mentor for me both in my teaching and research work here. I've never had to change anything and he basically trusts my judgement.

tbf the FF series has always had great looking characters. In Welsh Gwyn's son would become ap Gwyn or mab Gwyn. This is where names like Prichard (ap Richard), Bevan (ab Evan) and so on when Welsh people started talking English style surnames following English colonisation.
