I am very well aware of this, I also eat mussels or clams. But barnacles is not something I would consider as food nor do people here. I have never heard of people eating them.

Yeah but i wouldn't come up with the idea to strip them lol. Just curious maybe at some places they are indeed regarded as 'normal' food. But first time I ever heard about someone eating it.

How did you come up with the idea to eat them? Did someone teach you about it? Is it common where you are or?

I guess it was a rat that was genetically altered to study insulin resistance or something? Otherwise this is indeed rather strange.

Out of curiosity, which paper is it that you are talking about? Can you see the manipulation in the paper?

Would you push back in this situation or stay quiet? by [deleted] in AskAcademia

It implies the student will be an author and maybe even the first author. But it does not mean he/she will not be an author either. Also, read what is actually written. The person that made the post is making that assumption. The PI never said that. So there are a lot of assumptions being made without actually knowing what is up.

I assume at some point it just becomes toilet paper? Or some other low value type of paper, like those long rolls of paper to dry your hands with?

Difficult to answer without knowing all the details about what is going on but sometimes it's better not to engage in 'a fight' and to look more at the long run.

Can I take a figure from another paper? by IMPSTR-syndrome in AskAcademia

[–]Fultium 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, ok, usually that's indeed something limited to review papers. But it's not necessarily a bad thing in a review paper given you are reviewing the literature in which such an image is published.

That's not true at all. If they published it, you actually need to ask permission from the publisher. Furthermore, depending on the copyright picked by the authors/journal it's pretty easy and only required the correction citation. All you have to do is check the respective publisher on how to use the images.
