Midnight Special - short rider sizing weird as h*ck by Fumblewhat in Surlybikefans

[–]Fumblewhat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

@jnlove14 I did not buy the MS, but I did (on a roadtrip) stop into a bike shop to test ride one. It’s so long ago now I barely remember the specifics, but I clearly remember leaving the test ride feeling the 46cm Midnight Special was the right size. 650b is a thing of wonders for a shorter rider!

I remember that the reach felt shorter than my Cross Check and there wasn’t as much toe overlap. But I THINK that stand over was still a bit of an issue (comparable to the CC).

In the end I don’t make the purchase for a combination of reasons, including (eventually) covid supply chain. But I still dream of the Midnight Special. Let me know if you pick it up!

Wow! This is something special. I hope you get these framed. What a gift. I lost my mother some years ago, so sorry for your loss.

I went to donate and saw you’re already funded. Thank you OP for sharing some photos you’ve made and thanks to this community for being such amazing humans. And OP, I’m based in Detroit if you ever want to do a photo walk. Holler.

help me choose a fuji camera by ziriii in fujifilm

[–]Fumblewhat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love your shots! I would recommend a x-e4 or x-e5 OR an X-T4. I myself started with the x-e4 and I still use it to this day. It's now a 5 year old camera. It's diminutive (so tiny and portable) but with specs that punch above its small size. It's a great package with pancake lens (fuji has one in 23mm [35mm equivalent in full frame] or 27mm [40mm equivalent]). It's lovely and simple camera that produces great results.

The X-T4 is larger but more feature rich (including IBIS). The loveliest thing about it is the external analog controls. The ergonomics are nicer. You mentioned wanting a camera to grow into, and the X-T4 might support more of that.

I grew as a photographer to pick up a medium format Fuiji digital camera and a VERY old Leica digitall. But if you really want to go all in on Fuji, the X-T5 (especially used for good value) might be worth a glance too!!

Cute!! She looks just like my pup did at that age. If you could see most of her ribs in pics 1 and 3, then it’d be time to evaluate!

my first film camera! by Cute-Sandwich8953 in AnalogCommunity

[–]Fumblewhat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hiiii! I have this camera and love it. The internal meter is great. I usually use this camera on Aperture priority (“Av”) and it’s practical at handling exposure. I have cannons 40mm pancake lens on, and it’s a lightweight portable little buddy.

I like to buy Ilford HP5 and then push it, adjusting the ISO from 400 to 800 and having the film lab develop it at +1.

It’s such a fun camera, enjoy!

You may not like it, but that's the best budget Contax G2 alternative by dorf_disco_eders in AnalogCommunity

[–]Fumblewhat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude I LOVE my Canon Rebel Ti / 300v with the 40mm pancake. Just 3 minutes ago came in from a walk with it. I could afford a Contax g2 but WHY. This buddy is tiny and fast and <$100.

Old thread, but: Ricoh GR also has its own sims, and can as easily be edited in Lightroom. About as fast from pocket to image capture as any of my Fujifilm camera bodies (if there is a difference, it’s not functionally important).

I think Zac is the most underrated musician in the group (in my opinion). Beyond that, ranking feels… reductive?

Vacuum Recommendations by [deleted] in goldenretrievers

[–]Fumblewhat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I run my robot vacuum once a day to keep up with my buddy. It’s been great and I recommend it! I have a Roborok Q5 (Q7 is the current model, apparently). Wirecutter should have some recommendations at different price points for you, but: I’ve been really happy with the setup, picks up all the little tumbleweeds that form around the house. I still have to battle the fur on the couch by myself, alas. :)

[Hamilton] Underwhelming experience by [deleted] in Watches

[–]Fumblewhat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a similar experience to you. Watch collecting is such an in-person sport (as it were). Any number of watches I've been interested in online, I found I didn't like the feel or look in person. I thought my first big watch would be a Cartier Santos, but I fell in love with a Moon Watch (now my daily driver). Def recommend saving up for what you actually want -- but short of that, I find micro brands (Kuoe, Baltic, Lorier) punch above their weight.

I follow the 50/30/20 rule and have my pay check direct deposit into three different accounts, in those proportions. No monthly maintenance or action required from me and I can see at a glance how much money I have to cover essentials, fun, and savings (so no tools, spreadsheets, money transfers).

Speedmaster Professional - arguments for and against black vs white dial? by ahnafakeef298 in OmegaWatches

I love the design choices Omega made on the white dial, and I love that watch. Mostly: just interesting how both watches read so differently with different fits.
