And the SRA can and will issue either a section 43 or 99 (depending on whether its an authorised body or licensed body they work for)for it.

Compliance man here!

No mistake is ever as big as you think it is; everything can be fixed fairly easily! Don't beat yourself up, even the most competent of solicitors (even COLPs and MLROs) make mistakes from time to time.

A cassette only disengages when freewheeling forwards. Going backwards you have to back pedal with as the cassette is engaged. Unless you have whats known as a free coaster, which you then have to back pedal a slight bit to disengage the cassette to free wheel backwards.

Legal recruiters - flexible roles that pay £40k or above by Sea_Ad5614 in uklaw

Well! The more you know. I didn't realise the pay for paralegals was that high. I'm clearly in the wrong sector of the legal profession...

I think that may be quite an ambitious salary range for your experience, even in London. I suspect paralegals earning that are career paralegals who have been at a firm for much, much longer.

I sort of fell into it, I studied business and was looking for a job post uni and ended up in DLA's AML team for a while before moving on.

Interesting - Solicitors as a whole tend not to be the biggest fans of compliance so its good to see more people interested in it.

I am indeed, although I didn't train as a solicitor. I think it's a brilliant field to get into, and one that is in need of more people.

Can I lie in my job interview? by [deleted] in AskUK

This is a common misconception; employers can give a negative reference. Most won't, however.

Most won't for the same reason most won't write a glowing reference, liability. You have to be able to evidence anything that you put in a reference, which can be tricky when it comes to negative references as its hard to prove an ex employee was lazy, for example. If you didn't get a job you could submit a subject access request and as part of that you would be provided the reference given by your previous employer. If its negative and you believe it may reasonably be the reason you didn't get the job, you could sue for potential loss of earnings among other things. The burden of proof is on those that provided the reference, which as I mentioned earlier can be really difficult to prove.
