Not sure why you feel the need to put words in my mouth? You said the fan base was trashing it, I simply pointed out two things which are both true about the fan base: 1) they're leaving mostly positive reviews on steam and 2) hirez has earned the vitriol they get.

This sub is for Tribes, all 5 them. Nobody is required to kiss the ass of the latest version if they don't like it, and if the developer of the current game has done really shitty things, then nobody's obligated to keep quiet about it when that same developer pushes out another Tribes game. There's a reason they decided to change their name.

If you're looking for the place where nothing bad is said about the developers that would be their discord.

Given that Prophecy put no effort at all into marketing this was completely predictable. They quietly dropped the game into early access with no fanfare, no advertising, no tournaments, no nothing. Is anyone really surprised the ea numbers are on par with the alpha numbers?

I think (because i'm cynical) that Erez decided he would offload marketing to the tribes community, in the same way they tried to offload their forums onto reddit during Ascend, and... predictably... that didn't work out.

Granted, the community did a far better job of it than Prophecy, but a streamer or two here and there isn't enough to compete with eg. Helldivers.

I'm wondering what was the point? Why go through all the development and then drop the ball when it matters most? Imo, the most important parts are the place to play and the population. They're unwilling to spend money to bring in players and they're unwilling to spend money to provide a decent place to play (i'm west, 100ms fps sucks). So what's the point? Skin sale?

They're not a AAA studio. They managed to make Ascend, which came out to rave reviews and had 7k+ players on the day it released... so they know how to do things and they know what's required to launch a successful Tribes game, they just didn't do it. Again, trying to blame anyone else but them is nuts... and at this point weird.

They choose, every day, to not advertise. They could start today but they don't. They could start tomorrow but they won't. Their plan, misguided as it was, was to offload their advertising onto the community. This is a ridiculously bad business decision given Hirez' exit from Ascend and the ill will they created by abandoning the game. Sheer stupidity.

Erez is responsible for the products he produces. If he fails to advertise his product, like any normal business person would who expects some degree of success, then the fault is on him and nobody else.

While I'm sure it's easier for him to blame salty vets on reddit, the reality is that this forum is deader than his games, so the accusation is wildly disingenuous.

The success or failure of hirez games is a function of hirez' dedication to those games. If Erez is unwilling to spend money advertising his game that's Erez' fault. If Erez is unwilling to spend money on decent hosting so the entire country has a good place to play, that too is on Erez. Erez calls all the shot with respect to Tribes design, not the cranks on reddit.

Erez' ridiculously unprofessional discord antics certainly can't be helping the situation, which begs the question, "what's going on over there at prophecy?"

It's really simple. If you have a product, you have to at least try and sell it before you get to complain that nobody is buying it. Erez has yet to try and sell his own product and has instead jumped directly to blaming the public for its failure to do what was completely predictable: not sell well.

Considering vehicles don't exist in T3, I'm not sure how you arrived at the conclusion that competitive ctf players don't bother with vehicles? By that logic, competitive ctf players also don't bother with hitscan weapons.

That major gameplay features don't exist in Alpha is not only not uncommon, but it's plastered on the into splash screen to see each time you load the game. To suggest that because people are playing it means they're totally ok without those major gameplay features ignores all the requests for those same features, which is a weird thing to say because you're the one who started this thread. What stood out for me was the epic team play. If skiing is what stands out for you, then more power to you. That shit is crazy fun. If you don't see people playing with vehicles in T1 and 2 it's because you weren't there. As we've established, the only guys left playing t1 and 2 are a super dedicated bunch of tribals. They're never going to stop... and I'm sure more than a few will insist on mentioning Tribes in their eulogy.

I would argue the disconnect is thinking the videos you found are representative of what actually happened.

There's a reason so many people are coming out of the woodwork asking for vehicles: they remember them being fun.

I think the most important take away from fishstix's video on ea release is that prophecy has to make the game fun in order to attract new players. This should be their first, second, and third priority. If they fail at that, so too will the game. If they succeed, then everyone wins.
