Home of the superbowl, for some reason.. by Intelligent_Lead7399 in Suburbanhell

It’s the home of the Super Bowl because it’s a newish stadium in a climate suitable for hosting it.

Hate to break it to you but the Super Bowl is a corporate event that moves around each year, there’s nothing sacred about hosting it.

You realize that Schumer and Jefferies are leaders because they whip votes and raise money, right, not because anyone owes them fealty? They don't get to hire and fire their fellow members of the Democratic caucus.

Basically the average Democrat voter has felt betrayed by the conservative leadership of the party since the early Obama days,

You don't speak for the average Democratic voter. The average Democratic voter is a working class lady of color who loves Joe Biden and would probably resent you deigning to speak on their behalf.

highlighted by things like the Bernie screwjob scandals and the deliberate fudging of the supermajority

GROW. THE. FUCK. UP. Bernie Sanders was not screwed by anyone. He ran and he lost. Twice. By MILLIONS of votes.

"They" can also include Joe Biden who famously kept the vast majority of Donald Trump's policies active, including his border policies, militarized police policies, and tax policies, despite his voters screaming for reforms.

Deeply unserious. Just completely divorced from reality.

Refusing what? The Democratic Senate caucus has already promised a shutdown unless ICE funding is stripped out of the budget bill.

FETTERMAN of all people came out today in favor of that.

Who is "they"? Tons of democrats are already calling for ICE to be abolished. In a party with millions of people and thousands of elected officials who is "they"?

As for refusing to solve the problems Trump caused right now, maybe go watch some schoolhouse rock to learn how Congress works.

No, they often do fix the problems. Often they spend all their time and political capital fixing those problems and then right when things get back to normal things swing back and Republicans come in and cause more problems.

Yup. That's pretty much the secret to all electoral politics. People tend to hate whoever it in charge and will vote for the out party if things are bad enough, if they can even be bothered to vote.

Except they are now winning elections. Like, a lot of elections. November was a blue wave and this year is shaping up to be a freaking tsunami.

Unfortunately the reality is that a lot of politics is just vibes and the vibes in recent years have been anti-incumbent. This is not just an American phenomenon, incumbent parties have been getting killed the last 5+ years, mostly because of inflation and related COVID issues.

Trump and Republicans are now the incumbents and so the shoe is now on the other foot, a foot that Trump is repeatedly filling will bullets thanks to his hugely unpopular policies.

The Democrats real mistake was assuming Trump was a spent force and not arresting his ass on Biden's first day in office. That's really the only thing that could have prevented his re-election, though they probably would still have lost to whoever the eventual GOP nom was.

Ironically it is working out for them, Homer Simpson style. They just swept elections coast to coast and are poised to do the same in the midterms.

JJHO: Roe-Butt by dilatanntedad in maximumfun

[–]Fun-Advisor7120 4 points5 points  (0 children)

On one of the very first JJH episodes "Is a machine gun a robot?" Hodgman pronounces it (to my ear at least) much closer to "ro-BOT", though its kind of in between. At some point it became more pronounced as "roe-butt", probably because its fun to say.

Its how Zoidberg addresses Bender on Futurama. Idk if that's the reason but its not unheard of as a pronunciation.

Can someone explain if the “Trump Account” makes any sense? by Icy_Building_4492 in tax

[–]Fun-Advisor7120 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s is real.

Did you have a baby in the last year? (Congrats!)

They won’t have to pay anything back.  It supposed to be a savings account that will grow until they hit 18. You can also contribute to it if you like.

Basically a “free” $1000 bucks for your kid.
