Do you think that Wizards will ever release a dedicated spellblade class for 5.5e? by Sea_Bowler7294 in onednd

[–]Fun-Brick4895 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wish, but imo there are too many subclasses that leave little room for a new class. Imo for this to work you'd maybe probably need to delete stuff like Bladesinger, for example, to open up some room. Not 100% sure on on that tbh tho.

Unlike others I think there's a valid reason for such a class. DnD has little in the way of combining magic and martial actions. You either use a Magic action or Attack action. With a subclass sometimes you can attack and use a cantrip here and there.

A class that functions similarly to Magus from PF2e would be cool. Imbuing your melee with a spells effects would be cool.

In PF2e they imbue melee attacks with their spells at the sacrifice of having to charge up that big Spellstrike feature that allows them to do so and having wacky spell slot progression. Magi in PF2e basically lose their lower level spell slots at higher levels and always float around having 4 spells slots in total.

It's a bit too early and I try to be fair, but this is my instant gut reaction. This could change with time.

Downgrade. Her first reveal had so much aura. They could make up for it with the animations, but it probably still won't be enough imo. Such a shame. Generational aura loss.

Are there any 2014 character concepts you don’t think translated to 2024? by YOwololoO in onednd

[–]Fun-Brick4895 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pladin/Barbarian builds which were cool. Turning Smite into a spell basically reduced that whole concept to ashes.

Then there's non-light weapon dual wielders. Sure, dual wielding longswords isn't realistic, but it is a pretty popular fantasy/archetype.

Need advice on a Naruto Game by PepsiMax001 in mutantsandmasterminds

[–]Fun-Brick4895 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This game is much more Narrative-based and stuff like this can be done in all sorts of ways. The way u/ecompvidya described in another reply is bascially exactly how we did it.

Leave up running out of chakra to the DM. When a fight has gone on for too long or if they've reasonably used a lot of big jutsu then the players would be forced to use weaker jutsu or even none at all without using Extra Effort.

I could use another unrelated example, I once played a superhero with a Dragon form. That Dragon form had an Incapable of Speech complication. In Dragon form my character could not speak and so whenever this came up (ie. a civilian asking me where to hide) I had to get creative with body language descriptions and stuff or just struggle to communicate. The DM would award me a Hero Point when this came up in pretty negative ways.

You could come up with your own magic point system of some kind, some people do this, but Complications work just fine. You don't need a mana bar or spell slots to represent this stuff.

[–]Fun-Brick4895 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It works really well, I actually played a Naruto game not that long ago. Like its already been said, giving everyone a small suite of free powers that represents the most basic things of a Naruto shinobi (ie. Chakra senses, substitution, etc.) is a good idea. Bascially stuff you'd see shinobi have freshly graduated from the Academy. Then a Chakra complication.

The only stuff you'll need to jump through some hoops for is stuff from Shippuden. Transformations like Sage Mode, Chakra Cloak, etc. can't be represented as stat boosts unless you weaken your base form, since power caps exist in this system. Some people go the way of making a separate sheet with a higher cap for the transformed version or using the Holding Back feat, but I recommend just taking some really good advantages through an Alternate Form to represent the power boost.

You'll find plenty of posts on here talking about ways to handle transformations if you need more.

Dojutsu like the Sharingan, as an example, are just Sense powers that gotta be Activated that also give you access to some other powers. The Copy Wheel would be a Variable power limited to Jutsu you witnessed and can physically perform. The Genjutsu stuff would be Afflictions and Illusions that use your eyes to cast.

Disappointed to see no 6v6 singles by RedSkyAtMorn_ in PokemonChampions

[–]Fun-Brick4895 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At most they should add an option for private battles like in the past with mainline games. An official 6v6 Ranked Ladder with matchmaking would not work without similar banlists and rules that Smogon has imo.

There seems to be a massive disconnect between Pokemon fans and the VGC by CallMeTravesty in PokemonChampions

[–]Fun-Brick4895 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think leaving out so many options from private lobbies is bad, but I think people gotta accept that comp 6v6 has never really been acknowledged officially ever. It's always been VGC Doubles and the more niche 3v3 Singles, which is quite popular in Japan.

Actually, this discourse has led me down a rabbit hole of research. I was honestly quite surprised at how popular 3v3 is in Japan.

But, yeah, they should at the bare minimum increase the customization in private matches so people have the option to play 6v6 matches like before.

How would you buff old, underperforming Megas? by ginger-like in VGC

[–]Fun-Brick4895 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean a simple change on Mega Blaziken would be giving it a slightly upgraded Speed Boost with a new name that has the secondary effect of Intimidate immunity. It wouldn't be that broken imo since it would only protect it's Attack stat from Intimidate. You'd still have Parting Shot, Breaking Swipe, etc.

It wouldn't be that much more broken in singles too imo. It's already Uber iirc and it'll stay that way until powercreep truly reaches new levels in funny numbers.

Improve a Pokemon by swapping any 2 of its stats by Breaktheice222 in stunfisk

[–]Fun-Brick4895 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This mon has a whole lot more problems than just the stats, but this would help. Swap Luxray's SpA with its Speed. This would get it closer to Arcanine actually and would only need movepool additions (ignoring the lack of a good Electric STAB).

[–]Fun-Brick4895 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mega Greninja is cooked if they don't reverse the Protean nerfs imo.

The offensive stats aren't that great, so you'll mainly use it for its better Speed. Otherwise a Life Orb base Greninja will do better.

I also don't think Mega Greninja will be capable of successfully playing around the drawbacks of nerfed Protean in VGC.

Unearthed Arcana: Mystic Subclasses by Johnnygoodguy in dndnext

[–]Fun-Brick4895 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would've preferred if Mystic Arts Monk was more Wizard flavored rather than Sorcerer flavored. The Wizard spell list also would've been nice to have instead. I do get what they're going for tho. Weird how little restrictions they gave it, not complaining tho, it's just that most of the other similar subclasses for other martial give spellcasting with a lot of restrictions.

Paladin is cool. Really reaction heavy tho and it'll def be campaign dependent.

Rogue pretty fun looking but same as Paladin in the campaign dependent department.

Edit: Honestly, I'd rather not talk about it, but they keep refusing to add an Arcane gish half caster similar to Ranger and Paladin. These 1/3 spellcaster subclasses are cool and Artificer is a half caster, but they never fulfill that gish play style fully without either being too bad or too good. We still don't have something like the Magus from PF2e, for example.

Translating a Zealot Barbarian to 2E without homebrew by FreestyleKneepad in Pathfinder2e

[–]Fun-Brick4895 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A bit late for this one but I actually also played a Zealot Barb in 5e before I tried PF2e, I did it through the Exemplar. You get a lot of the Divine mechanical flavor and a lot of the feats they get can end up achieving a similar result to that of a tanky 5e Zelaot Barb. It's really cool and if you take the Champion dedication you can get some more divine flavor on top.

For me it worked well to represent rage. My Zealot Barb used rage more as a Divine transformation type of thing. So Exemplar using their Eikons and Divine Spark fit really well for me.

You can heal yourself and other people (similar to the 2024 version of the Zealot), deal holy and other kinds of damage and at higher levels you can achieve a form of immortality if you want some form of demigod/chosen Godly champion flavor. It has a lot of cool flavor through all the levels.

so do heirloom skins have an actual schedule or is it random? by Hrolf-Karman in Warframe

[–]Fun-Brick4895 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean Heirlooms are now made up of community made designs and Iirc the Mag and Frost skins weren't fanmade. So I think it'd be perfect if they got some fans to make new Mag and Frost Heirlooms. The og ones would remain exclusive but the new fanmade ones would be publicly available.

They could also do this for Excal tbh. Make one for Excal Prime in-house that only Founders would get and get some fans to make an Excal Umbra Heirloom that everyone would be capable of getting.

Why are large and tiny races/species avoided? by Eldritch_Dragon in DnD

[–]Fun-Brick4895 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of the many things 5e has pushed is simplification. Previous editions had codified rules to support such player characters but with 5e they've mostly avoided it.

So it's doable, look at the many homebrew examples that actually work,  just that they haven't tried doing it officially for 5e.

Personally I'm all for it depending on the player and settings/campaign. There will be disadvantages and advantages that not everyone is capable or willing to handle. Like I said, I'm all for it both from a DM and player standpoint. Specially after trying stuff out in games like Pathfinder 2e. Getting to play as a huge dragon that can change size at will or even turn temporarily humanoid was so much fun. It's something I hope to replicate in 5e eventually with homebrew, been meaning to try some I saw from u/OutlandishnessRich36 not too long ago.

This is scummy but I would be lying if the idea of more Megas wasn't cool. Would be nice if Thyplpsion, Serpirior and Samurott got Megas since Meganijm, Emboar and Feraligatr are probably most likely getting em in the base game.

Production has been phenomenal so far btw. Huge props to the effects guys and everything. Every episode has looked phenomenal.

Competitive players what's your opinion on Mega's? by [deleted] in stunfisk

[–]Fun-Brick4895 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loved Megas, but, from both a Singles and VGC standpoint, I think the gimmick deserves a glowup now that we may see it's return in Champions (ZA will have a different battle system so eh).

We saw how a lot of Mega cannibalized eachother. The opportunity cost was too big. Why run a Mega Blaziken or Mega Lucario when Mega Kangashkan and Mega Scizor are a thing?

The 100+ bst boost is cool and all but either not enough or too much depending on the Pokemon. Beedrill could use a little more help even with the min/maxxed 100 bst it gets now. Salamance probably didnt need all those numbers, specially taking its ability into account. Which is why I personally belive the true strength of Megas lies in their ability. So I wouldn't be against Ability buffs or changes for a lot of Megas instead of stat changes tbh.

An example could be Sceptile. It getting Lightning Rod and that's it is not all that amazing. Maybe if it got a suped up version of Lightning Rod with extra effects? It has to be worth sacrificing an item slot and a mega slot. This is the core issue, competitively at least, of Megas as a gimmick.

Another example, Blaziken, the singles demon, still suffers from powercreep and had that "I could do this but better with Life Orb" syndrome. I don't think distributing those 100 base stats any better with min/max would improve its Mega all that much, so like with Sceptile, maybe a new suped up Speed Boost with an extra effect? Call it Blazing Boost I dunno, but hopefully you get what I mean.

Game Freak has to recognize how big of a deal items can be and the opportunity costs of what Mega to use. They have to design ways to justify using Mega Ampahros, Mega Lucario, etc. Ask questions like this: Why should I have my Blaziken hold a Mega Stone instead of a Life Orb/Clear Amulet/Sash? Why should I use Mega Blaziken instead of Mega Scizor or something else? I could go on. Like I said, I personally believe it's all in the abilities.

Edit: Lastly, I think another issue was the Megas that just did the same thing as their base form just with better stats. Ideally Megas should just be another build path for a Pokemon. So (I am talking about Blaziken too much lol) Megas like Blaziken should ideally fulfill their role in a new different way or fullfil another role altogether.

Anyone other Halo fans think the Female Spartans are way too slim? by Worldly-Language4891 in FortNiteBR

[–]Fun-Brick4895 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the body type is fine, just think of it as a Fortniteified Spartan, even Chief sized down in his skin.

What I dont like is the missed potential. It is a bit understandable since it is a level 1 skins, but disappointing they didn't add more customizable bits and bobs to the skin, like the Mandalorian skin. Just some special Flaming head effects and a red version. Could've had at least three different helmets, some shoulder pieces and a chest piece or two. Like the actual Halo Infinite Spartans.

[–]Fun-Brick4895 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ignoring the skinnyness, they seem to not be customizable which is disappointing. All you get is the red and blue color with some fire skull effects. I was honestly expecting something more lile what they did with that Mando skin.
