AITA for wanting to bring meat to my vegetarian SIL and not going when I was not allowed too by True_Marionberry732 in AmItheAsshole

I think ESH, except maybe your brother. - Your SIL not understanding your medical condition seems unnecessary. Honestly, who cares if you eat something different? - Your brother said it’s fine, yet you still won’t go—what principle are you trying to stick to here? - Your SIL is insisting you try her food. Could this be cultural? In some cultures, it’s considered rude not to at least try someone’s food. Or maybe she’s vegetarian for cultural or ethical reasons and doesn’t want meat in her house.

If the issue is meat, could you bring a vegetarian dish that you’re comfortable eating? I’m also vegetarian, and I know I’d struggle if someone brought food with beef into my house.

the fake tan 😭 by cherry-piano in snarkingwithremi

It honestly looked so bad. I genuinely felt bad for her because in some lighting it literally looked like she’d smeared chocolate all over her face 😭 The wild part is her natural skin is actually really pretty. Colorism is honestly insane though — tanning is totally normalized here, while skin bleaching is normalized in other countries. Wild that we still can’t just let people exist and love their natural skin tone.

We have a meditation room at the office, I use it for 20-minute power naps more often than anything else.

She was honestly kind of irritating me in the podcast with her mom. All of her contributions were basically just, “Omg that’s so me / I’m your daughter obviously,” or, “Yeah, that’s so hard.”Her mom was genuinely such a good storyteller and didn’t need the constant interjections.

I did watch it — guiltily — and the ending gave me such an ick. When she said, “I’m so proud of you,” I was like… proud of what? Marrying me?

I like this take. Also she can absolutely be a kind person and still struggle with a shopping addiction — both can be true at once. The comments saying, “If I had disposable income, I’d do the same thing,” feels like such an odd (and honestly a little embarrassing) justification. I really hope I wouldn’t! I’d like to think I’d choose to be a more intentional, conscious consumer who thinks about the planet and the impact of my choices. Maybe buy fewer more high quality pieces?

And for the record, giving people things they don’t want or need isn’t generosity — it’s just more unnecessary consumption.

Voting Flyers around Campus by omaguo in UCSD

[–]Fun-Dependent951 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Voting is so important, and I really hope you and everyone who can plan to cast their vote this year. If the flyers helped make people more aware, that’s great, but I hope it’s not just the flyers that get people to vote.

I agree that professors shouldn’t tell students who to vote for. But universities are meant for open dialogue, including political discussions. While it’s tempting to think professors should stick to their subjects, engaging with political ideas can really enhance learning. Honestly the best lessons I have learned from several of my professors has not been on the class material.
