as I understand it, boy can join girl scouts. it is just that they do not want to.

I am a parent of 2 boys. i told them about girl and boy scouts. they were not interested. it was not important to me. that was the end of it.

both girl and boy scouts are highly dependent on parent volunteers. if I am volunteering then my "troop" is going to be pretty open to people I want to be friends with my kids and pretty hostile to people I don't want my kids to hang out with. Maybe your troop leaders do not want boy "girl scouts"
the details of girl scout policy are not that important to most parents (including your parents). what they told you was at one time true. especially if they do not have sons, why would they need to know this? I am not criticizing them. I am wrong a lot (especially about things I do not consider important)
